I'm new to the mpc thing and the mpc 1000. need massive help

I just got My MPC 1000. Newbie.

I just got my mpc 1000 from a friend. he included some samples and sounds in 2 cd's.
it brought a usb cable. and a flash card.
I'm super lost and don't know where to start. I tried messing with it and getting around the machine but with no luck. I also tried reading the manual and following directions on how to transfer my samples and sounds to my mpc using the usb cable. but the manual is speakin in terms I'm not too familiar with. I know if I learn I can really master this. is always at the beginning where things are a little rough. I'm very familiar with music and I have a passion for it unlike no other. all I need is someone to help me get to know all the little steps into get in started and working around the mpc 1000. so I'm beggin anybody who will take the time out and just spend less than an hour taking me step by step or just answer some of my questions. at the end of the day it'll be really impossible for me to learn all that there is too learn to get this thing up and running all by myself.

1) how to transfer the samples and sounds succesfully to the mpc via usb cable.

focusedwitit there really is no point asking this. Half the people on these forums think they really are smart asses and when they first got an MPC they were gifted with magical skills.

Even though they are quite gay. Use youtube or in the manul search "USB TO PC connection, read the contents, it is there).

I've only had an MPC for less than a month, and I will tell you straight up that I figured out all the basic shit within about ten minutes by just reading the **** manual.

After that, you can reasonably know what's going on within a few hours of **** with it and by the end of the week you should have a pretty solid grasp.

It's not that we are 'gay' or smart asses, but all these questions are the most absolute BASIC functions of the MPC - there's a very easy-to-follow quickstart tutorial that covers ALL of these questions.

Posting here should be a last resort, not a first one. They make manuals for a reason, it's not expected that anybody can just turn on the thing and magically be making beats. You have to put in the work for yourself.

Yeah.. the most important magical skill being able to READ THE F***** MANUAL!

I don't think anyone can just pick up an MPC read the manual and then know how to work it straight away without any other background learning in music technology.
I mean for example, what's the point of reading in the manual the chapter about the midi sequencer if you've no idea what midi is in the first place?
focusedwitit, your trying to run before you can walk. Take time to learn about the fundamental basics of music production techniques and modern studio technology. Without this the MPC might as well be a paperweight looking cool in your bedroom.
Thats not to say you won't learn anything right now from reading the manual, you could probably get some kind of beat going, but some of the stuff your asking in your post is there plainly written in the manual.
For example you need to know how to transfer samples from your PC via USB. Nothing anyones going to write to you through AIM is going to be any clearer than whats already in black and white in front of you.
I teach music tech in a college for 14-18 year old kids and come across this everyday. We use Reason and loads of kids sit there after being shown how to make a basic drum beat and after 5 minutes if they haven't produced the latest club banger they think 'why can't I do this, this is s**t'. They ask you for help but really they don't want to learn they just want you to do it for them. They don't realise the hours of studying some of us have put in.
I'm guessing your only a youngster. Be patient, go back to school, so to speak, read some beginners articles in music production magazines and it'll come eventually

I have been playing with music technology for about 10 years now and honestly - in every day of that time I have been learning new things.


It is a process that you just HAVE to go thru, it is not an option to which you can decline.

Stay focused and keep the fire in your belly and you WILL make some good beats. Maybe not great beats tho...

focusedwitit- Being that you're unfamiliar with alot of things that may not be so clear in the manual, my suggestion would be to check out the MPC1000 Tutorials...

You may not understand anything in that free tutorial, but it's just an example of how he goes about explaining everything so well for people to learn much easier.

Quite a few people on the forums have purchased these tutorials, and were extremely happy with how easy it is to learn from it.

BTW- I don't gain anything at all for recommending tutorials... but I do gain the satisfaction of knowing that people benefit greatly, as they come back here on the forums to mention how much they learned. It's really worth the money. Consider it as an investment!

I'm not on the forums much lately to know how true or false that may be... and I sure as hell don't have time to argue, hand-hold, or tell people to RTFM.
So given the limited time I'll be spending, I'd rather be more positive and somewhat resourceful instead.
