Use this one instead. The above cable is forced stereo to mono.
The below suggested cable is stereo, you can change your samples to mono later
on if you like.

Some sounds need stereo, some don't.

Don't force yourself into a mono corner, give yourself an option and/or choice.

Lamp what is official name of that 2nd cable pictured at the bottom of your post? I took the pic you posted to Radio Shack and the guy was clueless as to how to help me. With the name I can find it online and do this right.

My only other guess is to plug http://www.radioshack.com/product/index ... Id=2103237 into headphone jack of my ipod classic and then plug 2, 1/4 to 1/4 cables from the adapter to my mpc. It sounds unnecessarily complicated, and I am not sure it gives stereo...

Any help at all would be awesome

Yea, that's a Stereo 1/8" jack to 2x Mono (or Unbalanced) 1/4" jack, to be more general. With a 1/4" instead of the 1/8" Stereo Jack on the one side they also go as Insert cables (because you use them for the FX inserts on most mixers).

God, what kind of people work at that Radio Shack you have there?

I know a bit about recording but am a bit unfamiliar with cables and stuff(I am getting better though!) so I brought in a picture diagrammed and drawn out perfectly of what I needed. The guy was unsure told me he never saw any cable like that before and started to try and assemble a cable with all 1/4 cables which I knew was wrong. Worse part was the guy helping me was the owner! Experiences like that make me incredibly happy I found this forum, everyone here has been ridiculously helpful with my questions, and have saved me immeasurable hours of fact seeking on my own.

P.S. Just got my MPC 500 in the mail It's my first one and I can't wait to try it out!
