usually when i timestretch something, i will make all my peices the same lenght, ie.

8 chops before timestetching will all be a little different becuase of the natural swing of the original sample.
but after i find my 8 chops, i will make them all the exact same length so it fits in a certain tempo of my choosing.

so now when i playh my sample back on the 1 of each hit, it will fit with the tempo perfectly.

hope that helps!

yeah, Lampdog posted something awhile ago about the limits of time stretch (ie: 10 - 15% works best) that made me realize it wasn't just me! lol. so lamp, fanx for that.

along with the idea of building a beat to match a loop you've dug out, one idea i've used is to actually build on TOP of the loop, then remove the loop.

it requires really listening / breaking down the loop, but it can help you figger out where yr hits should land, and when you remove (ie: turn down) the loop, you can see where you're hits are late or early, too stuffed or completely absent.

sometimes that makes yr own lil beat better. but either way, it helps you figger out what yr doing thru analysis and practice.

(and yeah, plus one on working the hell out of the box. the 1k is pretty deep. don't let the curve freak you out).

good luck.
