what I said is the usual reaction on web forums is to try and out-insult. not that you specifically had done so. I probably could have been clearer.

if that's directed at me, I'm fairly confident you're wrong :)

you said you're an EE undergrad, but you have no idea what I do :)

maybe I've been working with computers for a living since before your balls dropped

mpc1000user wrote:i want to ahve a beast computer, and since im buying one i figured id get one that also has all the best parts i need for my music and to plug my mic into it and record into it instead of the mpc (its more of a hassle to do it in the mpc then save each recording and export to a computer). SO i guess ill be contacting lampdog unless someone else has more input on this :)

If you want the best of both worlds, check out Maschine. Sounds like you would benefit from its MPC-like hardware workflow that fully integrates in a software DAW environment. It's much faster to get stuff done than MPCs and no exporting/tracking hassles.

My knowledge of computers is most likely MUCH greater than yours.

COMPUTERS??? or just PC's running windows... I'd bet the latter.

If you did know anything about them, it wouldn't cost you 2 grand to put it together.

I'd consider building a computer, or buying one used. You will save a good deal of money. In fact, I would recommend buying all of your gear used.

The computer comment was to the grublet. When i'm talking about computer knowledge, i'm talking about everything computer related including Windows down to the mosfet level. assuming you know what mosfets are.

I said my budget was around 2000. I said this because I don't know what the pricing is of the audio gear related equipment. But i'm not here to prove how much i know about computers. i'm here for help in making the best DAW for that budget.

To the guy that made the comment about how i look like i wanna do no work and blah blah. i said if u dun wanna help me dont comment. id say thats pretty **** reasonable in my topic. and I am trying to learn, i enrolled in an online audio engineering course yesterday and i bought the mpc book on this site. I'm doing what i can, but i have to build this studio asap so i came to a forum trying to get fasttracked. id say thats pretty normal, so when i said keep your negative comments to yourself i didnt take into account the possibility that some of you open these help topics for the simple purpose of making yourselves feel better and like all-mighty knowledgeable pros.

If you have some insight on what specific gear i should look for in the making of this copmuter, please by all means comment :) doesnt have to be specific, thats just best case scenario. Also any specific models of keyboard controllers along with hardware synths or soft synths listed would help A LOT! theres so much gear out there and so many opinions that i figured the more experienced guys on this forum would be the best perspective to listen to

well your main focus as you know will be ram and CPU power... mainly lots of ram. Next most expensive piece potentially would be the audio interface.

obviously you dont need to get an apogee interface because those are often like 2 grand if not more. Maybe look at a used motu 828mk2 or maybe a delta 1010 if you are getting a mixer with good preamps... or maybe for a cheaper price you could grab a focusrite or something. if you want to run protools you will need an m audio or digidesign interface...

I suggest getting at least 8 line inputs because 8 is almost like a standard in music gear. the mpcs like the 2500, 3000, 2000(xl) with expansion has 8 outs... a lot of mixers are 8 bus. it gives you the extra options for when you expand.

here are a few interfaces you should look up just to familiarize yourself:

alesis io/26
rme fireface
motu 828 mkII or mkIII
m-audio delta 1010
apogee ensemble

check those out, that is a wide range there and check out the specs.

Hip Hop is gutter grimey, so your rig's gotta be grimey too. No other way, where you think Hip Hop came from? Definitely wasn't born in some high maintenance studio with all the sparkle and glitz, no, it came from two turntables and a microphone and an optional 4 track for doing albums. Stick with the roots.

Ugh, yea.. i know more about hip hop and its history than you. that conceited "i know so much more than everyone" attitude doesn't make anyone believe it. You guys are seriously complete idiots if you think that just because you have quality equipment you can't make hip hop. hip hop originated when there wasnt the technology we have today (and people that started it couldnt afford it neways), but that doesnt mean it has to always be made like that. There are MANY underground hip hop artists today that have high quality music which is STILL hip hop. Nice studios too. but yea grublet just gtfo my topic.

mpc1000user wrote:i want a powerful studio capable of a lot more. i can still make hip hop with good gear i just have more options and quality. anyways, any of you got a specific midi controller keyboard + synth i should buy??

I have a 49 key axiom midi controller, and use synths on reason and shit.
