thank you all for education my ignorance on the subject, do any of you have any specific audio interface tips that should suffice for me based on what I've written? i know i could just browse the net until i find something that "looks" good enough based on MY knowledge on the subject, which I would admit lies between noobie and rookie.
So the question is out there!
and i don't wanna spend much more than 200USD, maybe it's to much to ask, i might bend somwhat.

Studio monitors, don't you think my logitech Z-5500 would suffice?
Yamaha Audiogram 6 sounds great, but am not sure if that's what am looking for, am hoping for a audio interface that outputs quality that would actually benefit from the optical cable, am not sure what that means, sounds expensive too.

And the delta 1010 is a soundcard, and I go laptop slotless style.

the thing is, for your budget you are stuck with a used interface if you want a good quality one. I suggest avoiding the USB 1 interfaces... for usb only get USB 2.0 or firewire or else you wont be able to multi track.

my obvious problem is that i want firewire interface and optical out, but those i find are expensive and more than i need! I simply live home, no pro studio, not a band. so i kinda only need 1 or 2 mic preamps for sampling vocals. toslink, firewire and a couple of extra inputs for synth
