a mpc1000 and reason is dope for a mpc/pc combo. with this setup you really need any other sound modules or sound sources besides the stuff you use off of your cd djs.

Ok so based on what I have...

1) CDJ turntables and a DJM 300 mixer
2) A laptop PC

What do you guys think I should get? the 2500 or the MPC 1k? If the 1k, isn't there a newer black one that came out? What does that one do? Does it have velocity pressure pads like the 2500?

Also, I was researching the boards for cheaper mid-range synths. I saw the MicroKorg. Is this the preferred synth, or is there something else that is better?

Replies are MUCH appreciated peoples.

1) Can I hook my CDJ's to it and sample music.?
2) Is it possible for me to burn the beats that I make on my MPC onto cds?
3) What "extra gear" may I need?

1. i take it the CDJs have an output?
2. yes, the MPC part stands for "Music Production Center"
3. headphones, cables, RAM, HD, etc...

I thought mpc stands for midi production center

They all have Velocity sensitive pads so don't worry about that. Coming from where you are coming from I would definately go for the MPC1000. The Black one is just the same but with different colour casing.

Ill reply with some more info tomorrow for you but it's late now.
Do you have MSN Messenger? If so then I'll add you and you can fire any questions you have at me on there.

Sushi, I don't have messenger or anything. Sorry man, but you have been a great deal of help. About the velocity sensitive pads, The Mpc 1000 I played with at the Guitar Center weren't velocity sensitive (the harder you hit, the louder it is) but the 2500 was. I thought that's how it was anyway.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but the only differences between the 2500 and the 1k are the effects, (swing timing, and the cd burner). Am I missing anything else? And you guys say that I really don't need these because I can get my laptop synchd with my mpc?

I know these are a lot of questions, but my last one is: What type of mid-range price 100-400$ keyboards do you guys reccommend? I saw something about the microkorg triton or something?

The 1000 is definitely velocity sensitive.
Maybe u just didn't get the feel for it,
or maybe the presets you were playing were configured to ignore velocity (which is possible as an option.)

dawg, i am not trying to come down on you or anything, and i mean no disrespect but before you even think of buying anything, i would suggest that you read up on the different mpc's that are out. you can go to akai's website and download every single manual of every single mpc (past and present) and read what the differences are. the 1k and the 2500 have the same exact effects and swing timing. the differences (in software) between the 2 are the 2500 has chop shop (the ability to chop samples in 2 ways-by hit point and equal parts) the 1000 only chop in equal parts but start/end points can be adjusted; direct record to track is on the 2500 and not the 1000. that gives you the ability to record audio (not midi) directly onto 1 track per seq. the 1000 doesn't have that ability; the 2500 has grid edit, which is self explanatory. it gives you the ability to manually place beats/notes where you want them without having to bang on the pads in time. the 1000 does not have that. and the most obvious difference on the 2500 is the cd burner. but that leads me into the physical differences. as stated, the cd burner; two extra midi outputs, dedicated number pad, tiltable screen; larger pads, 2 extra q-link controls and thats about it.

Akai most likely changed the name from "midi" to "music" to make it more marketable for those who have no clue what midi is.

very good response. from what i was told, that was basically why they changed it. along with the fact that "midi" was the old akai and "music" is the new trinity (numark/alesis/akai)

my bad on the effect part sparq. I remember reading the differences between them and I thought the ones I named were right. Anyway, sparq, what do you reccomend I get? The grid edit sounds pretty dang nice. From what I understand it moves it over to the closest 1/16 or 1/8 beat?

Anyway, could someone please answer my questions about what type of mid-range price 100-400$ keyboards you guys reccommend? I saw something about the microkorg triton or something?

the triton is far more expensive than $400.
check out the microkorg and the micron. both run for $399 and arent bad at all for virtual analog synths to get started with.

Alesis Micron...

Korg microKORG...

play around with both of them at your local music store for a while and see which one better suits you.

Yea I like the way the Microkorg and the Aleseis look but I am a little confused about what the monophonic synth is compared to the keyboards. Also, say I do have a MPC and one of these keyboards, I just hook them up through the Midi ports or will I also need something else for it to work?
