I probably shouldn't comment since iver used neither of those machines. I have a mpc 2000, btw.
but I can say that i've heard many good things about the sp404. I'm definately not biased towards the mpc because honestly I think the 500 is a waste of money besides it being portable....
if you're using it strictly for sampling then I see no need to pay that much for the 500. as far as the sequencer goes, I love mine on the 2000. have no idea how well it works on the sp...
