MPC Studio setup poll

I wish. Just a hobby. Have always loved messin with sound.

ms2000 as midi controller into MPC
MPC as master/sequencer
midi out from MPC to:
-yamaha a4000 sampler
-yamaha tx81Z
-midi->cv converter->minimoog and oberheim SEM
-vermona DRM-1 mk2
and i plan on getting midi back to the ms2000 soon

and adding a prophet 08 for polyphonic stuff

the computer is used to record stuff like a tape machine-ish

oh yeah i use a mpc200xl, midi goes to a motu midi express XT for splitting and sorting btwn the MPC and instruments. moving to a 2500 though so i'm not sure if i'm gonna keep using the XT, i probably will since i do stuff on the computer sometimes too.

Standalone

Equipment: Computer (winXP), MPC 1000, 6 channel mixer, Motif ES6,
and MBOX 1.

My setup = Motif ES6 connect via midi (slave) to MPC
MPC connected via midi to Computer. (slave) Pro Tools is the master.

All audio runs through a mixer. The each output channel is connected
to a passive direct box which is then connected to my MBOX 1. Outs
from the MBOX 1 to the studio monitors. I'm adding a mic-pre next.

into mackie onyx mixer -

main out to mackie 8' monitors - alt out of mixer for recording said synths and turntable (accessed when you press the mute buttons) into either mpc 2500 (main mpc where i do all of my sequencing etc.) or mpc 1000 (my portable i take to work and tweak my tracks on my lunch break)

the mpc then runs back into my mixer and into the firewire of my mackie onyx into my computer.


the mpc/or keyboard controller is also set to control any of my said synths (nord rack 2x, moog lp, vermona etc.) and there are other things along the way like my alt out runs into all of my efxs and then into my mpc.

i also use the alt outs of the mixer to sample, i have the onyx 1620

I originally had a ASR-X...it was the first peice I bought a couple years ago. I loved the sound and but began to slowly hate floppies and interface. I splurged on a MPC500 and never looked back.

I intended to run it into DAW and add Reason...decided to get a good multi tracker and added a analog filter. Now slave it to my multi-track with filter on return sends of recorder. I plan to get a small table top synth like a Virus, Evolver, or maybe the Waldorf Bloefield and stop buying shit until I master that set-up. So far my workflow is

I build my sequences and track separately into MT recorder then bounce into wavs for further editing in PC...last piece I plan to get is the liquidmix or SSL Duende Mini but later this year after price drops

i use 2000xl stand alone. im tryin to get it up to a computer soon tho..i cant even track out my beats right now lol

Tracking your tracks out will change the way you make music...but take your time, Rome wasn't built in a day.

I'm noticing most of you guys have a basic set-up of a sampler, a synth, and a way to track out...seem a lot of folks hoard alot of gear to just say they have stuff. After reading and doing a lot of research I strongly recommend this approach to noobs.

Dont try to be the next Timb or Dre in terms of gear accunulation you'll only stall your production...a sampler, some bread n butter, preamp, effects...track out...1 master your shit then compliment as required
