Best sampling needle

Was wondering if anyone had some expert knowledge on a good, budget (50-100 bucks) cartridge for vinyl sampling.

shure 44 somethings. thats what i use, they're really for scratching but they work for both.

Ortofon Arkiv.

I second and 3rd the two above mentioned setups.. They both work really well. The Shure is more for a DJ, but it will def get the job done.

Ortofon Arkiv OM (cheaper than the integrated version). The M44-7 is fine for scratching but I think it sounds abrasive.

with the ortofon arkiv it is not recommend to scrath or even back cue i would go with something above the m-44 or a DJ style ortofon
i myself have the qberts one.

I heard this question a few times now, but so far nobody on this board seemed to have a good answer.

technically any needle is a good needle to sample with

and where are your answers/suggestions at?

edit: btw i KNOW he said SAMPLE i was mearly pointing out the negative sides of having a listening style stylus so even if he did want to "scratch" or "back cue" (meaning spinning the record around counter clock wise to get to another point in the record) that it is not recommended with a stylus like the arkiv.

Of course Orotfon isn't going to recommend it; they want you to buy another cart for that.

I still have records I scratched on when I was 11 years old with a Panasonic all-in-one stereo. Guess what? They play fine.

Spinning a record back once or twice to cue up a sample isn't going to hurt anything.

I own an Arkiv and a M44-7. I don't use the M44-7 for anything except scratching and mixing. When I want to load anything into the MPC I put on the Arkiv.

...which are all DJ needles, not Hi-Fi needles.

oh well then i apologize for my snotty attitude ortofon (i know your probably sick of that name) they do make hi fi needles. as far as hi fi qualities go im afraid i cant help ya there sorries. im sure there is probably an audiophile forum around somewhere on teh internets that could possibly help ya out.

Yo _stilo_ the shure M97xE is one of the best sounding Hi-FI Needles out there. Beautiful sound but you can`t (shouldn't) scratch or backcue with it (eliptical needle)
That`s why I`ll stick with the m-44 at the moment.
I`m constantly on the search for a good+affordable sample needle too.
