Good question, and one I still don't have a clear answer for. I'll be awaiting replies as well.

Because of my bad experiences with earlier OSs, I've gotten into the habit of creating a new folder and saving the entire contents of my project to that folder. When I want to resave, I delete that folder and create it again, then save my project contents to it. I don't know of a safer way and Im always weary of experimenting. I haven't had a lockup for a good while now.

The next update may finally correct the file corruption issues as they just fixed it (after three years of ignoring it) on the 1000 and 2500.

In the meantime, one impractical but possibly effective method of avoiding the problem would be to get access to a 1000 or 2500 running either JJ or the allegedly now format corruption free Akai OS and use it to format any CFs that you plan to use in the 500.
