what are my options as to connecting the motif xs and mpc2000xl to cubase.. I want to have the mpc play some drums from the motif xs and then have the motif xs play some of its own sounds.. is this possible? any advice guys?

You mean you want the MPC to sequence some drums from the motif by playing the MPC pads and the MPC to sequence some sounds from the motif by playing the motif keys.
You could do what you want without involving cubase in the MIDI.
MPC out->Motif in
Motif out->MPC in
In main screen change where it says drum to MIDI and you should be golden. You just gotta learn how to change channels/parts whatever they are called in the Motif, it should be in the Motif manual.

yup. I would sequence from the mpc (maybe sample some drums inside it too) and sequence the motif (mpc controlling the motif), then hook the outs of both to cubase for recording. of course its entirely up to you but you could sync them both with cubase and let cubase do the sequencing.

Also the motif xs has the ability to connect to cubase and you can control its parameters from the computer, even us it as an audio interface (although im not super familiar with how to do all of that.)

peace.

Yep, both of 'em should. They're from the same parent company (yamaha & steinberg that is).
