Logic Express 8

can someone please tell me why when i have more than one instrument in logic they all play at the same time when i hit my keyboard or mpc pads.for example i would record organ on track 1 and when i try to record track 2(piano) both sound would play at the same time.i know is a logic problem or setting but i cant figure it out if any one has expirence this problem can u please help.

i don't use the instruments in logic express. but i've noticed that when i create a new track, it sometimes just creates a copy of the last track, and everything that happens to one track happens to the other.

By default all the instrument tracks are set to receive midi data on all/ any midi channel. What you want to do is look through your Logic midi settings and select 'Auto Demix By Channel'.

There are two buttons on the arrange page to enable quick creation of tracks.

One creates a new track with your chosen settings, the other creates a duplicate of the currently selected track.

ok thanks man i created the mpc module that you posted with the elctronica template and it work great but i was trying to create a diffirent template with reason instrument shoul i do same thing change ch.all to each individual track 1-16.

You can do it using Reason instruments either in standalone (using Reason only) or via Rewire in Logic. Just swap the logic instruments you don't need from the template to Reason instruments and rewire them correctly.

ok thanks man i got it to work with out my mpc i use jj os 1 on my mpc 2500 but the problem happens when i go and set midi 1A on mpc it trigger both sounds to play together and when i turn it off it works fine, but i cant record on my mpc i know it has something to do with the midi channels on logic but i try messing with them and nothing.

Clint, your method works for using software instrument tracks in logic because you are able to give each software instrument its own midi receive channel.

This poster is having trouble because a Reason Rewired instrument in logic (use external midi and point it to reason instrument in library) doesn't give you a midi receive channel to set like you do when using software instruments in the arrange window.

I've been having the same problem as he is.

Pro Tools give you the option to set what channel the reason instrument will be triggered on. At the moment, Logic only gives you midi receive channels on actual software instrument channels, not reason rewire instrument channels.

I can think of various ways to achieve this, but this is not the thread for it.

Post in the correct thread and I will offer a reply to anyone that may be interested.

I know nothing about Logic 7 im afraid. There are a few Logic threads up at the moment, one has a link to a Logic 7 tutorial which may help.

Ok, lets just say for logic 8, if you have everything hooked up to your mpc through midi, and say you recorded some strings on one instrument, how would you go about playing some piano on another instrument, but keep the strings playing at the same time?

A couple friends told me I have to change the channel its on, but I haven't been able to figure that out and they haven't had the time to come over and check it out for themselves.

I don't mean to keep asking the same question but I'm stumped here and could really use some help.
