What do I buy, I know nothing

What I really can't figure out is how do you sample from vinyl using turntables. What is a mixer and does it get the samples from a turntable? if so, how?

when choping a sample on the mpc with alot of different sounds, can you single out one instrument?

I'm thinking about buying an Mpc 2000xl or just 2000. Whats the difference?

I'm sure you guys hear alot of dumb questions from alot of beginners but I just can't figure it out from any other sites.

You will need a sampler if you want to sample from vinyl, which is what the MPC is.

A mixer mixes the different frequencys? from the vinyl which you can use to make some instruments softer/louder. the MPC also has similar filters. It is hard to single out one instrument, so generally no.

Dunno what the difference is but I have the 1000 and from what i hear, (with the pad upgrade) its all you could ever want.

Look around this site, use the search function, all these questions have already been answered here somewhere, as well as the ones you are about to ask.

To get an MPC2000 nowadays you'll most likely get it used and abused. I would recommend getting a new MPC500 or the 1000 to get you started. New ones come with the manual so you can understand the machine especially during those bathroom reading sessions. For now you can hook an MPC to your home stereo just to get the sense of making beats, worry about other equipment when you are confident and more knowledgable in your skill. Its not an overnight thing unless you're truly gifted.

you can get a fairly cheap turntable if it's just for sampling from - not djing/scratching/beatmatching. you need a dj mixer for it's preamp - which boosts the level of the record so it's loud enough. it will also have eqs so you alter the sound of what you're sampling a bit.

Through record inn of the MPC.

The wheel spins the vinyl. The needle in the groove makes an analogue audio signal. Captured by the cartridge the signal flows to the tt outputs. U to plug the outputs in a dj mixer or a tt pre-amp.
A pre-amp amplifies the signal. Hook up the pre-amps/ dj mixer out to the mpc's rec inputs. Without a pre-amp ur phono signal will be too weak to give a nice clear sample.

A lot of beat makers use a dj mixer, cause all the dj mixers come with a built-in pre-amp. Plus it gives u a few eq options too.

There are a few differences between the 2000 and 2000xl. The 2000xl has more options. Check the comparison forums. I believe there's a topic going on about the difference between the 2000 and 2000xl.

Isn't there another way to record into the MPC500 than using the amps output? Cause right now that's hooked up to my external soundcard...

I'd rather do it that way than record on the PC... Cause then I'd might as well just do the chopping on the pc as well.

Anyway, my amp is a 2 channel mixer with only 1 out, which is my problem. But I think I'll do it by using the soundcard as an extra out - since my amp doesn't really function same way as regular mixers with my output limits here, which I also posted in another thread.
