1st off Happy New Year to everyone on this board and hopefully 09 is a good year for everyone. Starting this topic to share my experience with my musical journey. Im going to try and make this as short as possible.
Always wanted to do music. My entrance was my Acid Pro 4 purchase on ebay back in like 04. Used it to make mix cd's and other creations. In 06 I landed a bomb ass job (at the time) where I was bringing in some good money so I decided to go and get some real gear. I ended up with an mpc 1000, Alesis Micron, and 2 Rkt 5's. To my luck my job started working me weekends so there went my weekends for my music. Over the year I worked a lot of overtime so I hardly touched my machines. Sold the Micron (how I regret it so much) and my mp ended up collecting dust.
In the begining of 07 I moved to a bigger house with my parents and Decided to build a seperate room downstairs for my musical needs. Also got a Yamaha Mo6 and since I didnt want to use software, I got a tascam track recorder. Moving on I got with my current fiance (and we all know what its like in the begining of a relationship) so I obviously wasnt working on nothing. Next came my Love for the Mv 8800. I went to the store and fell in love with that bad boy. I flipped my Mpc and my Mo6 and got it in December of 07. a week later I found out my girl was pregnant. Dammit! So now here I was with a new machine and a baby on the way. Well times got rough and I got a part time gig and a weekend gig. So that was 3 jobs including my full time.
So I tried my hardest to learn the Mv 8800 but with 3 jobs going it was hard (I started at midnight and worked till 10 and right away left for the pt job and worked from 11:30 till 4. And would get home at 5). So I had to make a decision: Either let this machine collect dust because I dont have time for it. or Flip it and get another mp because Im well familiar with it? You guessed it, got me Another mpc.
So now to my conclusion. I sat down one day and thought long and hard. Do I really want to make music or just do it as a hobby? I dont want to make music for fame or money. I just love music in general. So I thought to myself some more. Im going to say **** all the new machines and all the so called "necessities" to make music. Im going the old School route. I got me an Mpc 1000, Stanton tt, cdj, some records and cds to sample from, some headphones and my rkt 5's. (and I got me a Firewire 410 and Pro tools m-powered to lay all my shit down haha). 09 I think will be a great year for me. It took me time (and MONEY) to really figure out what I wanted to do and how I was going to do it. But like the old saying, actions speak louder than words. Peace ya'll
