Freestyle Music

Hello Everyone,

Kinda a general question here so I didn;t want to post to a specific MPC thread.

Anyway, If I wanted to emulate the feel of old Club music, like Latin Freestyle, where could I find vintage synth-percussion samples???

Usually the beats are so heavy and have melodies/sounds layered over them so I cannot exactly sample anything from the songs themselves.

Just looking for general suggestions about finding vintage club sounds.

PS I have an Alesis module and obviously can effec various sounds to get a lot of the feel, but definitely not all.

i love latin freestyle. guess you need to first work out what vintage sounds you're after. 808, 909 first up, i guess and keep things quantised. quite a few of the freestyle records have bonus beats for easy sampling.
no idea what synths to look for.

anything can make a club record.......just set tempo for 118-125 .....freestyle is one of my absoloute favorite genres, just use alot of 808 909 and planet rock ! lol

Yeah sampling Planet Rock could work

But again the track is so layered I coudln;t really snag the sounds without also grabbing high hats and such. But it has the kinda sounds I am looking for, also think Debbie Deb. I am not sure how to describe it, but they are almost laser-sounding drums. Sorta like a descending Saw also, but long. You hear this sort of thing in Disco tracks as well...Anita Ward's Ring My Bell comes immediately to mind.

Well I guess what I am after was what drums machine were they producing Freestyle music with??? From there suppose I could start looking for samples of those particular machines.

I'm gonna start grabbing freestyle on vinyl...I don't have enough vinyl to be honest! Perhaps I might have some luck with Instrumental b-sides...maybe. I might find things to sample there. But like I said, with layered beats getting individual sounds might be tough.

I'm gonna see about getting samples of all the 808 and 909 pad sounds...,then I'll see what I can do.

u dont really need to sample freestyle from vinyl, its a very clean sounding genre. There is a difference though between the 2 types. Florida freestyle and new york freestyle. You will notice Florida has more of a spanish vibe and NY is More Club. May I suggest any " Stevie B " and Vols 1, 2, and 3 of "The Beast Of Freestyle Megamix with Bad Boy Joe"
