Mixer

Hey guys and gals, i am new to the music production game. i wanted to know what is the best/cheapest mixer that i can use to to connect my mpc and turntable into? i had an idea of what i wanted but i am not too sure now.

I am a broke college kid, so maybe somewhere under $100.

a mixer is not a necessity. i run my turntable through a phono preamp. why do you think you need a mixer?

that might work. i really wanted to use the mixer for other uses like adding audio to my videos, listening to my records, and for my main use, connecting my mpc and turntable.

again, it doesnt seem that you NEED a mixer. i dont see any reason that you need a mixer to do any of those things that you mentioned. i do exactly what you do, without a mixer.

to add audio to your videos, you need an audio interface and software. to listen to records you just need the phono preamp. my setup is like this.

turntable to phono preamp to patchbay half normalled to the mpc. which is basically saying turntable to phono preamp to mpc. i listen to records through the mpc and use the gain knob to turn adjust the volume.

you can connect the mpc and turntable directly through a phono preamp, but if you are determined to get a mixer, get a mixer.

Quick word of warning about buying a separate phono pre-amp - don't get a shit one.

The pre-amp is an important stage in the audio chain, a poor one will muddy your sound and distort the more extreme (high and low) frequencies. When DJing I've had to pick up a budget £10 pre-amp in emergency situation and you could audibly hear the difference when I changed from deck to deck (the other pre-amp was in a Vestax 06, nothing special itself). Phono pre-amps come in all shapes and sizes, you can buy one that fits in a pack of cigs or you could buy a 4U rackmount preamp for £10k+.

If you're a ghetto superstar you could even build your own.

here's a tube/valve preamp you can build for a $100. it'll make your samples sound so sweet.
