You need some kind of interface for your computer. I use
Firewire Audiophile from M-Audio. It uses both MIDI and Audio. (You need a Firewire card by the way) It's an older model, not even on the M-Audio website anymore, but I'll stand by it. I record into FL studio, which I already had before. Whatever free sound recording programs these people are posting here, like Audacity, I know plenty of people that say they work fine. You don't necessarily
need MIDI cables, the right audio cables work fine for me. Also, once you have found the setting that works for you on your computer, you can save that setting as, "MPC500 Recording" or whatever so it will be there each time. Man, don't worry about the
Song Mode - Save as a Sequence thing. That used to just piss me off when quantising points weren't the way 'they were supposed to be.' With the interface, you can just go to Song Mode, hit record on your computer, and go back to the MPC and press play. Done.
