MPC 500 to computer

OK, this question has already been asked before im sure. But I couldn't find it and I need more clarification anyway. Here's the situation... I made a jam that I like alot, I put all the sequences together in song mode and I love it. But I want to save it on my computer but have no clue how to do it. I think I need to convert it to a full sequence first. Then record it onto the computer. But I don't know what cords to do that with or how to record it onto the computer. Can someone help me?

Get one of these:

Small end to your PC Line Input/Mic jack, and the other end to your main outs on the MPC.
In Audacity you want to choose the Line Input/MIC as the record source. It should be set by default.

ok, now after I set up the cords and everything and get the pc set up, where do I go in the MPC to get it to record onto the computer?

you don't. if you're recording tracks individually, your mpc just plays, your computer records.

if you're not tracking stuff out individually, then you don't need to do any of this - you can just do it over usb. I thought that's what you were asking originally.

read the manual. if your song is completely finished on the mpc then getting it onto your computer is really basic and you shouldn't need to ask here about how to do it.

You need some kind of interface for your computer. I use Firewire Audiophile from M-Audio. It uses both MIDI and Audio. (You need a Firewire card by the way) It's an older model, not even on the M-Audio website anymore, but I'll stand by it. I record into FL studio, which I already had before. Whatever free sound recording programs these people are posting here, like Audacity, I know plenty of people that say they work fine. You don't necessarily need MIDI cables, the right audio cables work fine for me. Also, once you have found the setting that works for you on your computer, you can save that setting as, "MPC500 Recording" or whatever so it will be there each time. Man, don't worry about the Song Mode - Save as a Sequence thing. That used to just piss me off when quantising points weren't the way 'they were supposed to be.' With the interface, you can just go to Song Mode, hit record on your computer, and go back to the MPC and press play. Done.

I looked in the manual and couldnt find anything about using the USB to put it on my computer. All I found was that it said I have to turn it into a sequence

You can hit Load - scroll over to USB: Not Connected - plug it in - this is only for transferring files, not recording. It acts like a card reader, that's all. The Firewire needs a Firewire port. I have an old Dell, so all I did was buy a card and put it in the back. Honestly, man - I bought the MPC500 brand-new. I like it, but I don't love it. Don't spend too much money on add-ons unless you're serious about it. If you want, buy the RAM upgrade (see my post: viewtopic.php?f=15&t=26775&p=1077391#p1077391) resample parts of the song as a sample, save each sample (now a .WAV), then just copy them onto your computer - copy and paste them together, and there's your song.

you can save the song as a wave file then drag it to ur computer.(cheesy but gets the job done) i use this when im referencing.

Ya you're all overcomplicating. Mode Song, Mode Record, set input to "Main'', hit Do it and Play Start, stop when it's done, save file, copy to PC.

Do you think my sound card be able to record my MPC song to my computer ?
I actually record my mic with, but just to be really sure before buying useless cables..

yep, your audio interface will do the job.
can you change the sample rate on it from 24 bit to 16 bit? sounds on your 500 are 16 bit.

so, you have two options to get your song onto the computer. 1/ resample song/tracks. then drop and drag from mpc to puter using usb.
2/ track in to the computer using audio interface.

give both a go. see what you like best.

I dont think I can switch in 16 bit mode.. or I don't know how to do it ?!

I'm sure that if you give a discription of your soundcard, someone here will let you know how to do that.

Then come to think of it, switching between bit depths is usually software selectable (depending on what app you're using).

^^^i have a mackie onyx that only reocords at 24 bit. like you said, i just change it to 16 bit in logic for anything that i want to move back onto the mpc.
