mpc 1000 won't communicate with my macbook pro?

i've got an mpc 1000 and want to upload some drum sounds to it! i have the drum sounds on my macbook pro and have connected it to my mpc via USB but i cannot drag and drop the WAV drum sounds into the mpc, as it does NOT show up on my mac! what am i doing wrong? do i need to load it onto the flash card via some other means and then plug that flash drive into the mpc? Please help

common issue. Try shutting them both down, then power up the MPC first. while the MPC is already connected turn on the MAC and leave it alone for a while. The first few times my mac took a while to recognize it too.

you pressed the 'usb' button on the mpc, right?
