HELP! no sound at all from my MPC 1000

I just recieved a used 1000 (the blue older model.) I turned it on and everything seemed normal but when I hit the pads i got no sound. This is my first MPC, so assuming i just wasnt doing something, I spent two good hours going through every menu and every page of the manual trying to find a way to get SOME sound out of the beautiful creature- to no avail. I looked through forum after forum and it doesnt seem that this is a common problem so now i am worrying that something is wrong with the hardware itself.
While going through the load screen I saw that you should be able to play the samples being loaded through that menu, but when i hit the play button, again i hear nothing.
Can anybody help me!?!?

Maybe if you audition the sounds within the "folders", then you'll be able to hear something.

The only other drawback could be that the unit was initialized therefore erasing what was in it. Until you load sounds onto the pads, the record & playback functions are useless.

see, I am seeing the audition function and still, no sound even when i hit play. all of the factory samples that I have seen on any other one seem to be in the hard-drive so I dont think it is an issue with the samples either.

Have you tried loading a program?

yeah i have and i hit "DO IT!" then the cute girl with the sign told me I already loaded this program
so i loaded another one
but still, no sound.
