tracking out beats from my mpc2000xl to my computer

hi, just wondering if anyone could help me im new at this. I purchased an mpc2000xl and i have cakewalk sonar 7 installed on my compuer. I also have a midi uno usb to handle midi work. my question is this all i need plus the midi cables obviously, to track out beats to my computer? i have a midi cable going out of midi A of my mpc to midi in on the uno...and i have midi out of the uno going into midi in on my mpc. I know i also have to sync the two together using midi sync or midi time code.
