Getting into Production

Hey everyone,

I just wanted some guidance on putting together my first set-up. I am new to the world of production/beatmaking, but not necessarily music. I've been DJing on and off for the past 9 years, and have decent gear as far as that goes.

I do not own an MPC, or really any sophisticated recording or production gear.
Where is a good place to start? What should I be researching for my first purchase (software, MPC, etc.)?
I guess this is probably more of a "Before Getting Started" thread.

Currently, I have 2 Technics 1200, a Rane Empath, and the ability to run Serato.

your off to a great start omg i love the empath, i had the gold one til it got jacked


if you have serato already, you should get ableton live 8 as your daw as ableton and serato partnered up and the two programs will soon be intertwined
