beginner with absolutely no knowledge of MPC

i have had a MPC 1000 with JJOS v3.08 lying around here for over 6 months. I have made some decent beats with reason and a MPD but am looking to get out of that. does anyone know of a good site or video tutorial out there to get basic knowledge of how to begin using this? i will buy the tutorial manual if i have to, but i am trying to avoid that being unemployed. i am even willing to purchase a version of JJOS. i have friends who use this but really don't have the time/patience to sit down and show me around on it. the only thing i have found out there figures that i have basic knowledge of how to use it or the manual. i have looked over the user manual and that is not much help either. if someone knows of a guide that got them started or video, i would appreciate it.

Whether you know this or not, if you look to the right of your screen, you should be able to see beat making tutorials for the 500, 1000, 2000, and 2500.

Now when you say you don't know how to make a beat, is this about loading/saving and playing sounds or is it about sampling?

I think if you knew more about the concepts of the 1k, you probably wouldn't need a tutorial. That's like I don't know much if anything at all about the motif rack I use. But because I understand its concepts, I might've struggled a little in the begining but it's becoming second nature the more I put my hands on it.

I think your problem is you've already put up a barrier, that you're convinced you can't pull this off without someone showing you how to do it.

Give yourself a chance first.

Get the manual and read it. Try everthing. Press every button. Soon, you'll find out how to do everything you want to do. It's the best way to learn imo. Oh, and use the search feature on the forum too!

to get you going, you'll need to:
record a sample
trim a sample
load a sample
then you can hit a pad and hear your sample.

to make a beat, you'll then need to know what a track, sequence and program is. (i imagine the transport control is pretty self explanatory -- hit play to play, hit record to record your performance).

the manual is good at explaining these concepts.

thanks for the jjos manual link and the dvd link. much appreciated. i know there are tutorials to the right of the screen, that's what i was trying to avoid buying. i don't like the manual, i know how to make a beat, just have never used a mpc. i have used computer software only up until this point. i sample, i know how the concept of making a beat is just not on the mpc. i understand this a message board and therefore will get some responses that are a bit sarcastic, but it was just a simple question. thanks to the people with useful info.

you're going to be pushing shit up hill if you don't read the manual. it's not about liking or not liking the manual. it's about whether you want to learn how to use your mpc.

I totally agree here. Now this goes for me as well...(scenario) if any of us came to our executives of a record label with excuses about being a beginner on the mpc but I don't want to read the manual, what do think they would say (especially w/ a project that's nearing a deadline)?

Probably things you wouldn't want to hear. There's no softness in the music biz. Of course there's a heap load of bs that you hear from everyday folks and thus gets passed down from person to person that "if you do this, you can get away with that".

There's no shortcuts. If we're to be successful at something, we have to put in the dues to reap the rewards of that. That's just the way things work.

yo, i'm going to read the manual. i was just wondering if anyone knew of something that helped them out when they first started other than the manual. if i had knowledge of something that helped me out and remembered what it was and someone asked the same question, i would give them an answer. i see what kind of help i can get here, obviously i don't need anything else. don't talk down to someone, remember you at one time were in my place. and this is by no means directed at everyone that responded so don't take offense. i am learning something completely new, i didn't want to go and **** up something by playing around with shit. after making beats for 10 years on a computer a lot of this is completely new. some of the terms in the manual were even unclear to me. so, i will read the manual and use the links that i was hooked up with here and see where i get. i'll come back when i have a legit question to ask i guess. thanks to everyone who had useful input.

I definatly still remember like 3yrs ago. No one I knew had an mpc, didn't had a computer with youtube and mpc forums. All I had was an mpc 500, the manual and some books on how to make beats.
Maybe I worked twice as hard then other people who got a lot of help and stuff. But I gained twice the knowledge by finding out basic stuff myself.

no, you didn't give me anything to slam in my face. i will learn the manual, video and searching the forums. that is what i meant. by obviously that is all i need because that is what got you guys by. you only made one comment that i can see and i didn't even see it up until you telling me you slammed it in my face. like i said, topic is closed, i will use these items and learn. i wish there would be a way to just delete this topic so it dosen't have to be ongoing, maybe i'll find that as well.
