I'm trying to figure out how Damu the Fudgemunk does this. I have the MPC2000xl, but I'm sure I can do the same thing.

I get confused around 1:30.

1) I'm thinking he's using the PAD technique in NEXT SEQ mode, and combining it with the SUDDEN function.

2) Or maybe he has long samples in each pad and combining it with Mute Assign and Mono in the Voice Overlap parameter.

3) Or he's possibly using the Track Mute screen... I'm now leaning more towards this one.

Sorry, this might not make sense to MPC2000 users, although I'm pretty sure it provides the same or similar functions. After all, he is using the MPC2000.

I appreciate any help. I'm not trying to bite his style, just trying to add more technique to my arsenal.

Bingo. pads 13-16 are 2 counts, he also has a 4 count pad he hits at :57(pad 10 it looks like)

then he goes into Track Mute screen from then on out at 1:30.

Thanks, I needed to be reassured. I've never tried this technique out. You can get some dope effects when you experiment with this. I plan on doing the following thing to mimic this approach:

1) After finishing a song (a project with a couple of sequences which include a verse, hook, intro, etc.), I'll start a new sequence with a ONE BAR loop.

2) I'll convert all of my other sequences into tracks on my new sequence. To do this, I'll just merge tracks together onto my new sequence. Adding all the different combinations that make up one bar, throughout all sequences, and put them on different tracks. Adding different one bar drum loops and other instruments that change melody throughout the song.

3) Mute all tracks except the drum track, and experiment with the Track Mute screen. That should give me new interesting arrangements that I might of overlooked.

It's crazy to see how people approach making beats on the MPC. Each one gives a different result, and can be used to compile a dope song. After all, you don't want to lack variety in your song. Keep the listener interested... I'm still learning and experimenting.

If anyone else has a unique way of arranging or approaching songs, please share. This video opened my mind up. Just changing the time signature of your song or using different techniques can add dramatic and positive change-ups within your song.

True that. I dont even go in Song Mode, I record all of my tracks live via the track mute screen. makes it sound more organic and human, which is how I like my music to sound

Yeah I guess I got comfortable using the PAD function in the Next Sequence screen. Just have a bunch of sequences that incorporate some muted tracks, but nothing special. I would just trigger one sequence after another. Didn't realize the advantage of using the Track Mute screen with a short loop, and merging tracks together.
