8outputs are analog.

spdif is digital.

Check the 2kxl manual for exact spdif rates. Your mbox and daw should be set to the same specs
in order to get anything done.

"record in digitally" where, how, what is that? Your not being specific.

i have the session on pro tools set to 44.1 khz 16 bit...im assuming that is the setting i need to have unless it need to be at a higher rate. i was testing the cables to see if a digital signal could go in and its fine, if i want to sample digital...but i want to send out audio via digital signal and not sure if if there is a setting on the mpc i need to change or my setting in pro tools....appreciate the help in advance fam

The first place I'd look is in the the manuals of both machines, mpc and mbox.
Also spdif settings in pt manual pdf.

Pretty sure it's there big dog..

you need to set the input in protools to the spdif channel... lets say, your audiointerface (in this case your mbox) got 4 analog inputs... input 1-2, 3-4. then your spdif should be shown as input 5-6.

maybe you can only use 1 stereo output pair of the mpc 2000 xl. if you got the analog stereo outs connected to your mbox as well, disconnect them. you dont need them anyways when you are using the digitals.

Are your pads routed to the individual outs?
The pads have to be routed to the main out cause the s/pdif represent the main out of the MPC

Another question. Mac or Windows?
You probably have to change the input settings in the driver control panel (not just in protools)

yeah, every thing is routed to the main out....im just not sure what it is, ive been researching this all day and have not solved this problem......my set up is mpc2000xl, motif rack es.....i initially tried to go digital out from motif to digital in on the mpc then out from mpc to digtial in on mbox......that didnt work, then i just tried from the mpc 2000xl digital out to the spdif in and no signal.....there gotta be something real small that im not doing unless the cable i bought from sam ash isnot the right onc, but i doubt it....

and im using a mac

I've got a 2500, Firewire 410, and I'm on Mac as well........After lots of frustration, trial and error, etc. I got digi spdif working by adjusting mixer settings in the 410......but I'm getting a barely noticeable buzz and the overall output levels are funky in a not good way. I just went back to using analogue outs directly to Mac's line in. I just wanna make beats and be creative, not fiddle with gear-----Peace and good luck--

yeah i wasted too much time with it and the set up i had was fine..this morning i hooked up the digital out from the motif the the spdif in and worked like a charm....now my mpc can just go directly into the mbox without going through my mixer, which was killing the sound but wasn't noticeable too much, just to my cyboric ears....now my motif sounds clean and mpc sounds alot better going directly in the mbox....thanks for those that responded......

We don't fiddle with fiddles though.
