hey guys, im thinkin about gettin an MPC as well.. mainly for rap and hip hop beats. However, I was thinking about the mpc 2500. The main concerns that I have are

1.) Will this machine itself be able to create samples or will I have to upload them from an external source?

2.) Will I be able to create like.. different levels up bass, for example, the song KGB by BINARY STAR. The song plays off different bass levels which I was wondering if I will be able to do. Thanks.

Its a sampler, thats it. You would need a keyboard or some type of synth to create your own samples. But MPCs were meant for you to record stuff in and then you work it from there. The MPC5000, however, allows you to create your own samples with its built-in synth and I believe you can create your own synth too. Not the greatest tool but does the job.

With 16 levels, yes you can do the bass thing.

A little research + google goes a long way. You should really study up on the kind of gear you plan on investing in, and not depending on people to give you advice to buy something. There is info on MPC's all over the net.

Like the man said, you could answer that pretty easily from the interwebs.

It can create samples, by sampling, but it can't create original sounds out of thin air. It needs something to sample, either coming in on its inputs or by resampling a sequence made from existing samples. The mpc5000 contains a synth, so it can create sounds out of thin air

The Mpc has internal software, the mpd requires external software.

The difference to the MPC to the MPD is

I am a cryptologist

MPC = MP3

MPD= MP4

Now what does that tell you?????

Yep you guessed it the MPD is supperior so you must get that one and if you don't ....well

You aint cool and the hiveminded people that populate your ghetto will throw onions at you ....EASY :P

yes. get the 2500. mpcs are the best.

other useful bits of equipment: turntable, preamp/amp/mixer and records for sampling.
maybe a synth -- you don't need the biggest and best. lots of very powerful great old synths go for a couple of hundred of bucks. you'll have to do a bit of research to work out which.

The mpc can play any type of audio in 16bit 44.1khz wav format. Whether it's recorded straight into the mpc or loaded up from a compact flash card.

An instrument program is a program where all the samples are chromatically assigned like a keyboard. Plug in a midikeyboard and u can play them like a patch in a keyboard or soundmodule.

billee_ho wrote:so, wouldn't buying a motif be better then, since some of then already include like the bass and drum, snare sounds.

not better, its just an option. the mpc is a tool for sampling, the motif is a synth. they both have their strengths and weaknesses. i prefer an mpc to a synth because i sample. i bought a sampler to sample.

i have a few synths as well because the mpc is a MIDI sequencer so it is the main center piece of my setup. everything is fed into the mpc and the mpc controls everything. but thats my setup. you have to figure out what is best for you and how you want to work.

nobody can answer if one is better than the other for you. its your choice.
