Ok. I haven't been able to find results on Google for the specific question I'm asking. I have used insert cables like this on my MPC and other pieces of gear to connect a L and R 1/4" output to a single balanced input on my hard disk recorder. I've never had any issues, but these cables have send/return labeled on the each of the red and grey ends, and I'm questioning if I am not using this cable properly. I guess I just want reassurance that it's ok to use this cable like this.

Doesn't mater what they labels say, use it how you wanna use it.

the send and return dont matter its just for plugging the single connector to a send return port on a mixer

the tip sends the signal while the ring returns the signal

i would just use a single cable because for the most part the sounds run the same on each side or just pan

I've got a couple of these that I use between my hardware dynamic processors and and the inserts on my mixer. Other than that, everything else is balanced/unbalanced 1/4" & xlr between the rest of the gear.

I really think I'm over thinking this. I've read explainations many many times and I'm still not 100.

So for me to get a my L and R output of my 1K recorded, I need to use two inputs on my Roland VS2400? And pan each accordingly? Or can I use one input? What would you guys do in this scenario?! :?

Yep, either or (bal/unbal) will work as long as they're seperate L & R cables.

Understanding Your VS says on page 1:

TRS Phone connectors are capable of handling stereo audio, or in the case of the VS
inputs, balanced mono cables.

That says to me that the balanced inputs do not take stereo inputs. They take balanced mono.

The mpc1000 outputs are unbalanced, so you won't get the reduced noise benefits of balancing, but nevermind. The point is that each input on the VS is mono, so won't record in stereo.

So you want to put the mpc's L into one VS input and the mpc's R into another VS input, and then you can probably link the two input channels into a stereo pair using the VS controls.

I forgot to answer this bit ... RTFM!

DOH!! I read through that ****, but it's bit's here and there, not cover to cover. Maybe I should be more methodical about RTFM!

Thanks fam.

forget the labeling, thats for the type of send/ return efx that use only 1 plug that go to 2

Your roland inputs are 1 channel mono? Wht do they look like, take a pic or give specs or something. We can't guess your needs unless someone id familiar with your gear. Either way u should provide enough specs and gear setup right off the bat in order for us to try and paint a picture for you. Help us help you type shit.
