I'm working my way through the manual, but one question I would appreciate an answer to in advance is:

I have my computer connected to my mpc 1000 via the usb connection and would like to access my samples I have stored on it.

How do I look for my samples using the mpc, that I have stored on my computer ?

Don't know if that's even possible. Correct me if I'm wrong, I know going the other way around is the norm, but using your mpc to see your files on the comp...I doubt it.

Ok, well that answers that. So what's my best option then if I have about 32 gigs worth of samples on my computer that I want to be able to use with my mpc ?

Edit:

This is a copied statement from the akai pro site :?

When connected to a Mac or PC via its built-in USB port, you can simply drag and drop data between the computer and MPC1000's CF card. MPC1000 is small, rugged and incredibly portable for an easy fit into a backpack or laptop bag for the traveling producer.

Drop them to a CF card

no, it's not possible. The MPC is mounted on the computer as just another mass storage device, so the computer sees it as another disk - there's no way for the MPC to mount the computer's other disks.

K, CF cards seem to be what I need to do.

Thanks, much appreciated

Edit:

Anything I need to know as far as brands of CF cards go ? or is one just as good and reliable as the next.

but basically, they're all as good as each other

I really don't know why so many people waste their time and everyone else's time by asking "will card XYZ work with my MPC?!?!"

it's like asking if a particular brand of batteries will power your torch, or a certain type of petrol (gas, whatever) will work in your car

just **** do it

well some cards work on some readers... others dont but work on different readers... etc.

I had a 1gb kingston that worked on the mpc but did not work at all on my computer because the computer could not detect that anything was inserted. While on the other hand I had some other card that worked on both and one that did not work in the mpc but worked in the computer..... but then you could get the same model of the same brand and have different results. It is trial and error with cards... so basically...

+1

That's not my intention, so sorry for that. I'm just switching over from a software setup and in uncharted territory.

May be I'd be better served to purchase an hdm-10 kit......

buy an ultra II, 2 gig compact flash card (my brand is a sandisk) and put that in your mpc. you can only load samples from the internal flashcard in the mpc, not directly from your computer. you can then just use the USB connection to drag files to and from your computer as you require.

i just teat my computer as external storage device for my mpc and the 2 gig flash card does me fine. but if you need more than 2gig of samples in your mpc at any one time, then look into buying an internal hardrive.

I didn't mean you were doing that - but that thread is full of such questions so I thought I'd moan about it before you added yet another question to it!
