As a dj you need mixer for the cross fader on the mixer. ie sample stuff as you scratch and cut it up live. I would not be surprised if some one has both. mixer into preamp into MPC. So if you dont beat juggle and scratch it up and just sample the stuff straight of record then just preamp though mixers also have EQs so again, depends what you want to do

A preamp will allow you to sample your vinyl, no problem. They are very cheap when you find them.

A mixer will allow you to alter the sound a bit more...EQ, cut, etc.

mixer into preamp into MPC

That is no good. You don't need to preamp a mixer's line level signal. This will not only distort the signal to oblivion, but it will apply a b!tchin eq curve that will drive anyone listening crazy.

I have fixed so many peoples' setups by simply moving their mixer from an input that has a preamp on it, to one that is straight line level.

Mixer or preamp...not both.

yeah for sure, i ment to say people like the preamp drive and distortion, but totally agree that gain architecture is best suited to one preamp or mixer
