Hey so im hoping there will be someone on here that could help me work out whats happened to my RAM card.

I recently bought an MPC500 second hand, and it already had the extra RAM installed (256mb 133mhz 32mx64)
My MPC worked fine for the first couple of weeks then last week i waas just jamming away on it and everything was fine untill it just froze and i couldnt do anything with it and it had this message on the screen....

inv. gen. inst. pc (884fb8f6).

I turned off the machine and turned it back on a bunch of times and was getting this.... SODIMM Test, Memory Problem, Check the Memory.

So Anyway i ended taking of the battery section on the MPC where the RAM is installed and noticed that the RAM card was coming out at a 30 degree angle and the 2 plastic bits on either side of the card slot were bent upward along with the card and i touched them slightly with my finger and they broke off. I tried pushing the card in and then down as recommended for the installation. And you are suppose to hear the click when the card is pushed down but mine doesnt click or stay down.

I have no idea how this happened as it wasnt like this when i first bought it and since the day i bought it i have only taken off the back once. I emailed AKAI support and they just told me its a warrenty thing.

What i am basicly looking to find out is

What is broken or at Fault here???

Is it my RAM card that has blown or possibly something on the Circut board. I live in Glasgow and have phoned about a few shops to see if someone can take a look at it for me but nowhere i can find is able to do so.
Since i cant find anyone that is willing to take a look at it and tell me there suggestions i was hoping i could maybe find someone on here that would have a slight idea what to do??
I hope its just the RAM Card itself that has went faulty and not the circut board as that seems like it could be mega hasttle and money.

Any help would be much appreciated

Cheers

From what I got from that, it seems like the ram slot is broken is that right? Your ram wont stay in?

If so what I would do, is hold the ram in place and fire it up. If it works normally then you have ruled out a blown circuit board or anything else. If not you're fvcked.

Then just buy a new ram slot either from akai if possible, or because it's probably just a generic computer part, get one of eBay. Ask a local computer shop for help.

Damn bro, thats harsh. Those plastic pins that hold down the RAM are delicate and weak and your not the first to break them with a slight touch.

Your best bet is to find a replacement part from Akai or mpcstuff.com and have an electrician solder it back. If you can't find the piece then cop a broken MPC for cheap and use those parts.

Thanks for the replys. I took it into a shop last week there n i was told it would be near impossibleto fix, but the guy said if i were just to pack it with paper or something it should work again . So iv packed it all down with blue tack n its working fine again. Bit of a shame iv had to do that rather than getting it fixed but hey at leasst its working again.
Yea iv heard a few ppl say they plastic bits are easily broken. Its not a very good design i dont think. Especialy if its difficult to fix once broken.
Cheers for the input tho, much appriciated
