i recently purchased a mpc 2000xl... the catch is the thing has no drive in it hahah. ive been looking on you tube and forums trying to find how i can use this mpc 2000xl without a drive in it. i cam across this one guys video it looked like he was using the mpc2000xl as a midi controller ( if that's what its called) im still new to all this =) i was gonna use this thing to make beats through the zip disk but since there's no drive i cant really go that way can i ? lol .......but there is good news a friend of mine gave me some stuff before he moved away said it could possibly help me if i can get the stuff to work

he gave me

1 midi cable
1 instrument cable
1 audioboxusb

he told me i could run the mpc through the audio box usb but problem is idk how to set midi channels in my logic 9
and i don't have any manuals or anything just a few tips to run off of

now from what i seen on the you tube videos and forums if i wanna use the mpc2000xl as a midi controller i need to run the midi cable midi out of the audio box to midi in on the mpc . now as far as the instrument wire or cable goes idk where it goes i tried the headphones jack on the mpc audio in l and r smpte slots but no sounds and to be honest i would try and see if i hit record on the daw and see if the mpc lights would come up like on the videos but here was no luck and a lot of ppl usually have some kind of piano ......is that why this wont work because no piano??? if someone could please help a brother out it would be much appreciated i know this stuff doesnt just happen over night

p.s. and when i unplug the audiobox usb it says device removed so im guessing tis reading the box but i just feel like im missing a step somewhere

You should learn the machine a little better before you try tracking into a DAW. You should learn how to sample through the inputs in the back and assign the samples. After you know how to do that, you don't even need a zip disk. It's all work and productivity. Find what works best for you. First tho, is trying to sample. Just go to record and plug a quarter inch into the sample in and begin recording stuff.

You should get an IDE CF reader and sandisk Compact Flash card (1GB or 2GB). Don't go to Zip drive route as you'll end up spend more money.
