so i just got the 2000XL and i have several questions...

1. when i change the velocity anywhere from "0-200" it doesn't seem to make a difference. Is there a way to change the velocity so that when i touch the pad the sample plays at full volume regardless of how hard i press?

2. is there a way to set the polyphony so that when i tap one pad, the sample plays until i hit another pad? so that it stops the first sample from the first pad i hit?

3. is there a way to copy a sample that i've assigned from one pad to another?

4. i was messing around trying to figure things out when the machine undid all my current parameters on each sample and they were all automatically tuned to "-240" and the polyphony on each pad changed from "note off" to "poly." basically is there a way to undo things like this and restore all my previous settings?

thanks, VDR

okay, so first off..

if you push the button on the top of the pads called full level... that does the max velocity all the time thing.

next, in the (i believe shift+6) program/parameters page, you will see on the bottom right mono/poly/note off... which makes the pads cut themselves off etc... push the pad and change the setting for each pad as needed. however while you are doing that also push open window which will allow you to make a pad mute two other pads. You will see.. basically you choose the pad by pushing it and scroll the wheel to choose the other one.

now in the program menu, you can push a blank unused pad (ie: bank 2 possibly) and scroll the wheel to select the sound you already selected before for another pad for this one too... instead of copy/pasting... another reason this is nice to know is... lets say you pick high hat again even though you dont need it... well in the mixer you can turn this new high hat's volume down and use the pad to mute others as well in case two wasn't enough earlier.

read the manual, but the number 1 thing you NEED to do is to push the open window button on EVERYTHING. 98% of the things your cursor is on has extra things to tweak.

peace, and stay up.

Yes.

1. Use a midi keyboard to trigger other pads/ banks.
2. Use another MPC or a pad controller to trigger other pads/ banks.

Do some reading in the 2000 forum for more tips and tricks.

k so thanks for the help everyone i've read the manual but i do still have one more question. When i assign the recorded sound to several pads, is there a way to trim that sounds just for one pad? for example if i have the same exact sample on two pads, but i want one part of the sample on one pad, and a different part of the sample on the other pad, can i trim accordingly? because when i've tried it, it effect all pads that have that sound on it. hope this was clear enough...

Duplicate the sample and trim them separately to achieve this.

I know your on the XL, but the functions you're asking about are much more streamlined and powerful on the newer machines.

In addition to pressing Full Level... there is also a way to set individual pads to full level without affecting the whole program. To do this, go into the program screen and while setting the parameters for that specific pad, press Open Window while highlighting the Attack or Decay field. There you can set the velocity for that particular pad so its always at 100%.

My XL knowledge is pretty rusty, but I think you just select a sample in Program or Trim and then press Open Window. The option should be there.
