Hi everyone, I'm a new user just getting started.

I got a mpc 1000 recently and I'm thinking about buying a keyboard very soon. I'm trying to load samples onto the mpc, and play different pitches of that sample using a keyboard. But to be honest, I have no idea where to start. Is this even possible with just an mpc and keyboard? If so, which cheap keyboard/midi would be good to carry this out?

Thanks in advance!

You can just choose a sample and hit 16 levels and play a sample at different pitches with the 1000 alone.

But for a sample from an MPC to play on all 61 keys via MIDI, I think you would need to copy a sample to 4 banks of 61 pads on the MPC, then adjust each pad's pitch by semitone's of 2s. Then assign each pad to a key.

Any keyboard with a MIDI OUTPUT will get the job done.

But before you rush out there and buy one here are some basic keyboard issues to consider:

1. Does it need to be portable?

2. Does it need to be USB powered?

3. Do you want the sounds of a synthesiser included?

4. What size/ how many keys do you need?

5. Will it be your studio's only keyboard?
