Hello everyone.

I had a question for those who use the MPC for sampling and creating drum patterns.

Specially, I was interested what you guys do to access the breaks and other single drum hits that you sample.

On my MPC2500, I currently have a program that is filled with different groove breaks that I have sampled so that I can go through them quickly and find the pattern that best fits the sample that I am working with.

I did this so that I wouldn't have to go to the load page and look through my 60+ breaks on my drive.

But, I have run into the problem of that when I load this program, my MPC's memory is significantly decreased and my performance is slowed down.

I was also thinking about creating separate programs to load my kicks, snares, and hi hats but I fear that if I do this and load it, I will run into more of a performance problem.

Does anyone have any methods that they would like to share to quickly access sounds to put down the skeleton of their work?

Thanks to all.

Loading a program full of breaks is obviously not the way to go if you need to preserve memory.

Save them on a computer and only load what you need to the MPC, save this as a program for future use.

Can't the 2500 audition samples without loading them like the 4000?

Yeah, the 2500 can audition without loading. But I didn't want to go through the list of all my files to find something. I just wanted to see if there was a method that people used to load some of their favorites so they have quick access to it.

I guess I was thinking more in terms of loading favorites and auditioning them quickly.

Maybe I can create a folder on my memory card which has the the favorites? I didn't really think of that till now....

I don't know about the 2500, but the 4000 has the AUTOLOAD feature which is very useful for loading favourite or stock sounds automatically upon start-up.

I dunno, maybe JJOS has something useful in this department?

Going through a list of files is often part of the process of finding the right sounds for a track, don't fall into the 'speed trap' and want everything to somehow be done faster. If real diggers can spend hours, days and weeks searching for samples on vinyl surely browsing the folders on a hard drive for a few minutes is a piece of cake.

The real problem with that is for it to be an effective way of locating sounds, your sample folders need to be well organised.

Get to know your sounds and develop a robust naming scheme, that way you won't spend so much time auditioning samples.

Edit: MPC2500 Autoload
