ok so i have no idea about this stuff, i did some research but im still confused.

my husband wants a new toy for xmas...i purchased him the logoic studio for mac, new macbook pro to use all the stuff for....looking to make beats..

im looking for something for a beginner! something that doesnt need to be upgraded fast though.

Akai mpc1000
Akai mpc2000
or the 200xl

found the 200xl for great price, however is it the same as the 2000 or better? was confused when reading on it, is the xl just something extra to go with the 2000?

id prefer to get the 200xl or the 1000 as the price fits budget...i know difference between the 1000 and 2000 however what is difference between 2000 and 200xl?

what do you guys prefer, and what do you own?

thanks so much!

The 2000 and 2000XL are slightly older machines in the series but they're very solid for the most part, however there can be an issue with the screens.

To avoid disappointment I would go for the 1000. As a more modern unit it will cause less headaches in terms of sample transfer and storage for a beginner.

One thing to note is that the older version of the 1000 which is blue in colour did have an issue with the pads. So if you choose this model go for the later issue which is mostly black in colour.

If it's between a 500 and some rokits and a 1000 and no rokits, go with the 500/rokit bundle. What good is all that gear if he can't hear it? 8)

yeah I will have to agree with mr tapedeck on the mpd32 and the rokkit speakers.. first of all, you got him a n ew computer, you got him logic which is one of the best music making and beat making programs.. the mpd being a controller will allow him to physically hit in drums and sounds which is essential to using a computer program in my opinion because using only a mouse and computer qwerty keys gets old real fast... plus the studio monitors (speakers) so he can hear the sound clearly and accurately..

you cant go wrong with that. send him over to mpc forums if he needs any help once he is set up...

also, just to add, the mpd32 is the best MPD out of the series.

i would say mpd 32 and the rockits also 8) would work great with logic.

he could just use headphones until he has a proper audio interface to connect the rockits to.
