i had an lpd 8 before but i sold it because i could only trigger a small number of sounds at a time, but it just dawned on me that maybe i shouldent have.
im thinking that i just wanst being to midi controller savy enough. at first i had it hooked up to exs (in logic) which i had like 50 chops with, and i could only play 16 of them.
i now realize that the template load out could have saved me if i wanted to activate more of the chops, although i am looking at a full sized one now ( the mpd 18).
althogh ideally i would like a controller that can acesss all midi notes from c-2 to c c 8 or whatever my logic piano roll goes to, but i dont think thats gonna happen.
i do realize that the mpd can be assigned to acess more than just those 16 notes if you go into the mpd setup program thing and save templates of notes xxx or yyy. then load them up that way. is this really the only way to work around this though? are other pad controllers more flexible bank wise than the mpd series?
i would like to be able to play up to 64 notes live on the mpd without switching the template out, but i think i would be good with 48 to start off with because i usually dont use that many chops in a beat, i just like to be able to play live and switch banks to see what meshes good musically without having to click the mouse.
so basically my question is, when your making a beat with a mpd and your samples/chops outweigh the number of midi notes that you can hit at any given template loadout, do you just minimize your daw, open your akai template maker program and switch to a different template that recognizes the rest of your chops?
does this even work without closing your daw and re-loading your project to re-initiallize your mpd, or does opening the "template program" re initialize your mpd without having to shut down your daw, thus killing your workflow?
could anyone recommend me a pad controller that can trigger more than 48 sounds at a time that wont kill the bank account?
preferably one that you have used and like the feel of the pads.
i would probably get the fat pads in the future for the mpd if i did buy it, hence why i was leaning towards akai.
thanks
