Hi guys,

Need some help with regarding some issues before buying a MPC 1000 or 2500.

I had Maschine but sold it after a few months due to being not happy with tied to the computer and it was more a hassle with hardware/software issues.

Now I always wanted an Akai when I was a student but it was way out of my budget and now I had some cash I want to buy a MPC finally.

So the issue I have is I have an Ipad and I do have a few music apps that I want to sample from, so would it be easy to just hook it up and sample without any issues. I understand I may need a preamp but money is really tight so really like to avoid that if possible for now.

With regards to loading samples how slow or fast is it?, I'm so used to being software based that I forgotten there could be a slight delay in loading the sample.

Thanks

i cant speak too much to the loading time, but on the older models it's really not even terrible so i imagine the new ones are just better.

as for a preamp, you do not need a preamp to sample yer ipad/ipod or any other line level device. the mpc even has a basic one built in.

Thanks, thats good to hear.

At the moment I'm reading the manuals and deciding whether to go for a 2500 or 1000, however, since I'm only a hobbyist and just making beats for myself I'm still undecided.

The only issue I have is the workflow which is will take some adjusting but then how difficult could it be :D

it is true that coming from a strictly software standpoint, some things about the mpc workflow will seem backwards or annoying to you at first.

just stick with it and you will learn to appreciate the limitations and the differences.

since you are admittedly a hobbyist, i would say go for the 1000 and use the extra money to buy the jjos. the jjos packs a lot more power and stability than the official akai os.

just so you know, a 1k and a 2.5k are basically the exact same machine software wise - the 2500 just has more ins/outs/buttons etc.

Thanks, I think space wise a 1000 would be a better option but I do like the look of a 2500:).

I'm ready to grind and learn it so its not an issue, also this is daft but at the moment I don't have access to speakers so could I use my headphones for the time and be alright until I have more cash to get some?.

Thanks for the help.

yeah you could use headphones, most of the time, i sit on my recliner or couch and plug the mpc into the wall and jam out with headphones.

Wish I'd seen this thread sooner. Sounds like you're sorted.

I've got the 2500 and an iPad. I've got an Alesis IO Dock that I sample from, but I've only got that to plug guitars etc into the iPad. The iPad has a headphone out (obviously) so a 3.5mm to stereo 1/4" jack cable would hook it up to the MPC's record inputs.

Thanks, thats what I was hoping to do sampling via the iPad headphone to the MPC. However, how are the levels for it?, do they sound low?

Not at all. Between the iPad headphone level and the MPC gain, you can get a perfectly decent SNR on any sample in. Like I say, that cable between the two is seriously all you need.

I've only been sampling from things like Animoog, Sunrizer or the YouTube app, but I've found that having the iPad out about two clicks below full level, and adjusting the Mpc to just below clipping seems to give the best samples. The Alesis gives you a proper knob for the output level, that's all.

Awesome, thank you again:)
