Newbie here although I have used both the 3000 and 2000xl in the past and then tried the whole Ableton and laptop route but have come full circle and let go completely of using computers and daws and it feels like a weight lifted. I like the creative limitations of mastering one piece of kit and not having endless choices.

In the old days I used to improvise different instruments and synths to adat, listen back and sample, trim, assign to pads then sequence and even do this with vocals all in 32 meg ! You get the picture ! Much as I would love another 3000 I have tried a 2500 with JJ OS2xl and Audio tracks. This really is working great for getting all my external audio synced to drums all inside the mp , vocals as well.

So apart from upgrading the shit jog wheel and encoder ( i posted on another thread about that ) I was thinking about putting an apogee mini me AtoD on the way into the 2500 through the SPDF at 44.1 16bit. This will bypass the internal conversion and paired with my Gap 73 pre and decent mics I should get a nice sound from my instruments and vocals. I also plan to sync up an S950 for certain sounds then I have the best of both worlds super clean and 12 bit fizz to cook up some sonic alchemy........

Any experience of this or other options on the AtoD. (needs to be 16 bit 44.1 spidf out)

Lastly I have been using the 2500 and am happy with the sound but as this is 100% my centre piece now and no computer or daw I think it would be nice to get the absolute best I can from my mics and pre. The apogee also has 2 very usable pres on it so would give a different flavour to my vintage sounding Gap 73.
