Okay, so I plug my headphones into my MPC 2500 and I can hear what I'm doing. Now it is time to take it to the next level. I no longer want to use my headphones, I want to hear the sound via studio monitors. So to put it in picture, I only have a MPC 2500 and studio monitors (soon to come). My question is, how would I get sound to come out my monitor speakers? Do I need any sort of audio interface such as the fast track pro?

I know I'm a scrub and but I'm working my way up.

Thanks for help.

if you got an audio interface you could monitor your computers sounds and your mpc's as well, not needed though.

like crossings said, if your all hardware, get a small mixer in the future.

Most monitors I've seen are ACTIVE meaning they have their own amps inside each speaker. Just plug the monitor directly the mpc main out.

You can find xlr to 1/4 mono cables easy enough. Or some monitors have both xlr and 1/4 inputs. So you can also use a straight 1/4 to 1/4 cable.

Standard is to have a mixer/audio interface of some sort though.

Thanks for the replies. Been busy with school.

For now, I don't think I need a mixer. I just want sound from the speakers. I will get a mixer later when I get more serious.

I was reading the manual but it does not seem to clear on the cables so the question now becomes, which cables should I get. I have a pair of KRK 5" studio monitors which both has 2 inputs which are XLR and TRS (Balanced). Which cables would you recommend? (4 options) Keep in mind that my monitor speakers will be directly connected to my main outputs of my MPC 2500.

1) 1/4 inch TRS Male to 1/4 inch TRS Male
2) XLR Male to 1/4inch TRS Male
3) 1/4 inch TS Male to 1/4 inch TS Male
4) Doesn't matter

Edit: Lampdog, beleive it or not, I can not find XLR to 1/4 TS (mono) anywhere. You said I can get a straight 1/4 to 1/4, but is that TRS or TS (mono) or does it matter?

Thanks.

Just a small note. Active speakers come with an AC plug, so two active speakers equal to two outlets to use them. If you need the electrical space then go for passive monitors which only the amp is powered. Learn your ohms and watts before you take this route though, its simple really. But I don't want to confuse you than you already are so get the KRKs, 6'' or 8'' will do.

i assume the mpc and speakers have balanced outs and ins, respectively, so i wouldnt get the unbalanced cables
depending on price and whether you'll be using microphones (they usually have a female xlr connection), i'd go with 1 or 2
