Iv searched here in there for this answer, but I get a lot of results as to how to set up MIDI to pro tools, but im not familiar with pro tools and my question is why? Is the purpose strictly for sequencing? If so how much of a difference is sequencing on the mpc than pro tools. Is it worth the investment in pro tools if you take your mpc serious?
Lots of reasons to set up MIDI between a DAW and MPC, main two are:
1) control DAW software instruments with MPC pads and sequences - i.e. use your DAW as a sound module
2) sync your MPC and DAW so playback is simultaneous, allowing for tracking, mixing down, playback of MPC and DAW tracks together etc.
MIDI sync isn't a requirement though, not if you are just tracking out your MPC beats into a DAW (that is, transferring the audio and/or MIDI from your MPC into DAW audio and MIDI tracks), you can do this 'manually' simply by hitting REC and PLAY in your DAW and then playing back your MPC. You'll have to 'trim' the resulting data in the DAW to account for the delay.
Alternatively, just import your MPC sequences as MIDI files, and if your MPC supports it, export/resample your sequence tracks as individual audio files for import into a DAW.
