hey there. just getting into this music world and.... that little Akai thing seems like a good start, if i could really connect it with pc and some software. seems like some mpc alternative, my goal for now seems to be to just to try and hit those pads for once in my life. mpc is too expensive for me now, but this thing seems just right. what do u think?

A little demanding there but if you aren't trying to be stuck waiting around for a reply I'd suggest you go to google.com, then in the search bar enter "Akai mpd18" and you will find a plethora of information on what the mpd18 is for.

After that, go to a local dealer and you should be able to see it in person and possibly use a demo unit.

That is of course if you're motivated enough to do a little bit of research on your own.

it's a controller you connect to the computer.. you can set it up so when you push a pad... it plays the sound.

Just like a midi controller keyboard (akai mpk series, or the m-audio axiom series) except it does not have keys... it has pads instead of keys (they trigger the same things)

I think for your first piece of gear you should get something like the m-audio axiom 25 .. you can get one used, they are built well.... they give you keys and pads... and later down the line when you may actually think about grabbing any mpc, synth module, or any other piece of gear... it will not become so redundant... you could still make use of it.

the mpd, once you get an mpc or pretty much anything else with pads... you probably wont use it anymore.
