How do I record my drum pattern onto Ableton

I synched my MPC 1000 to my computer, with my MPC being the master. When I hit play my Ableton obeys but when I want to record Ableton is not picking up the wave. I dont see the audio waves on the program. Please help.

do you have audio cables going from your MPC's Stereo Out into your computer audio interface's inputs??? or are you strictly using MIDI cables?

I was originally using MIDI cables until a friend told me to get a quarter inch cable. If I get that will it work? Do I need to purchase speakers as well, or can I use my headphones for right now?
