If I want to purchase an MPC 1000 or 2000xl is a mixer required. I currently have a mac with logic, midi controller, focusite saffire 24 pro sound card and krk rp5s.

Thanks
Matt

Yes. This one to be specific:

Start saving. :smoker:

big difference on needing and wanting.

The saffire 24 has 2 inputs on the front - these will take your mpc ST outs.

On the back, it has two line inputs, if you want to sample you could connect your TT (if it has a internal pre-amp) into here.

It has 6 outputs - run two of these to your monitors, one for each speaker.

Run two (left and right) to your mpc IN, this will route incoming audio to your mpc.

OR

Run a SPDIF cable from the digital out to the digital in on the mpc, and vice versa, run the SPDIF out from the mpc to the SPDIF in on the Focusrite.

If you want to sample wax, you'll need a turntable with a pre-amp. most Turntables dont have inbuilt pre-amps so a DJ mixer with a inbuilt pre-amp is required. you can alternatively buy a turntable wih usb out, just means you will have to record your samples to your computer, then playback from the computer and into the mpc. or load it via CF cards / floppy discs.

edit: for PC playback its a simple firewire connection, im assuming you have a firewire port. :P

Hope that helped

True. I hope you didn't think I was serious about buying a crazy-expensive mixer.

I use a cheap Gemini PS-424x - don't even think it cost me $99.

On some seriousness though, you may end up needing a mixer if you plan on sampling vinyl - and that's only if your turntable requires a preamp to raise the signal to line-level. Consult your manual.

There's a bunch of other reason why you may want one for your tracks - or maybe not.
