will an MPC do what Im looking for?

So I'm having no fun with software bullshit crackles and errors every other time I try and make tunes. I think its time I went BACK to hardware (cut my teeth on an old Korg workstation), and I need your knowledge guys.

MPCs seem to really be a great "hub" for a studio, and what I need is a LIVE PA sequencer (to midi clock n sequence 1 outboard synth) and for drum/fx/vocal samples within patterns.

MY QUESTION: How does an MPC tansition from one song to the next in a live setting (not sure mpc lingo here, but what I mean is: song one has 16 patterns plaing from 16 pads with x samples). What happens when I switch to the next "song"... dead air as it loads samples, or seamless transistion at the start of the next measure???

If you have all the sequences you want to use for your session loaded up in RAM you can play them back after eachother without "dead air" in between.

Whether or not you are able to load up your whole session in RAM depends on how you work:

What's with the crackles on the software? It sounds like your audio interface (or sound card) has the wrong buffer settings or something.

Im not sure which MPC you're aiming to get, but here is my take on this...

1. Take the advice already given with regard to sample/ program management. Make use of MULTI'S if your chosen machine supports them.

2. On the MPC create songs in songmode. Convert your SONGS to SEQUENCES and then you can use the NEXT SEQUENCE function to switch between the different songs in your live set. You can set the transition to the next sequence to be immediate (SUDDEN), or to change at the end of the currently playing sequence.

I know this may not make any sense to you right now, but if you investigate the MPC's NEXT SEQUENCE function hopefully the possiblities for switching songs on the fly will become clear.
