Just wondering what the best way of hooking up my S3000XL (rack) in my studio is, I recently bought an MPD18 as it was going cheap but as it only has usb connections can't hook it up to directly trigger the 3000...

Just wondering if anyone's got any good tips of how to utilise all of them perhaps, I'm working in Logic 9 on a Mac.

Cheers!

Ah right, thanks, will that definitely work then, hooking the mpd18 straight up to the 3000 with a usb/midi adapter?

Just incase you didn't know... Although you might be able to use a USB/midi interface/adapter to connect your mpd18 to the s3000xl. You will not to be able to sequence anything, basically you can jam live that's it. But you won't be able to record any midi data/overdub etc.. Basically you can't make a beat, just jam out.

Just wanted to make sure you knew that.

Thanks for the info... Think I need to read up a bit more about what they can and can't do, I'm going to be using logic for building up tracks and just the 3000 for a bit of character on the samples. Guess I need to read the manual though and see what else I'm missing by just using it like this.

It's also a pretty big lump just to use for a bit of 'character' on the samples when I could just use a software sampler with the mpd18.... Hmm. :hmmm:

Indeed, with a software based setup it's easier to sequence a software sampler than a hardware sampler. Also saving your beats to floppy disk or zip disk might be a pain in the ass. But the question is: is it still worth it to use the s3000xl.

The s3000xl is a great machine with a lot of features. For a 90's rack sampler the sample editing/ chopping on this machine is quite advanced as well. Eventough it might be a workflow killer compared to using a software sampler, I still enjoy working on the s3000xl from time to time.

Yeah, thinking I'll be editing within Logic anyway as I'm well used to it and I'll be recording audio through as well, mixing and all that jazz. I'll have to have a play around with the 3000 though, just see exactly what it has to offer!

Don't suppose you know how the sound differs once sampled in compared to original audio?
