Hey guys,
I'm very new to MPCs and I definitely will get a machine like this. Somehow I couldn't make up my mind so I need your advice , all you pros and veterans :-D

So here is my choice:
Offer 1: MPC 2000 XL 500€:
+ with 32MB Ram
+ CF Card Slot (replacing the annoying floppy slot)
+ 8 Output expansion

BUT:

- not working Variation Note Slider

MPC from 1998

Offer 2:MPC 2000 XL 500€:
+ MPC from 2001
+ 32GB Ram

But:

- ZIP-Drive (slot) (No CF Card Slot)
- no 8 Output Expansion

Both have working LCDs and Pads are like new

Another option could be the MPC 1000 128MB Ram (at my local Music Retailer) for 600€

with JJOS + 100€

= 700€

Generally speaking those prices seem a bit high across the board. Is it that MPC's are a little hard to find where you live? I've never paid more than $4-500USD for XL's with zips and both had the 8 outs.

The 1000 too, that's $910 for a max ram 1000 with JJ (XL I'd hope), kind of high.

eBay should find you similar models for less.

Generally I might lean toward the 1000 for the extra memory, JJ and the USB connectivity as well as more FX (although MPC FX are not the greatest anyway).

I have both machines.

I'd buy the first one for 300€.... That's it. Mabye 350€ if they are harder to find in your area..

I got a 2000XL so I'd say get the 1000 but they are juking you on that ridiculous ass price for 700 Euro. For a little bit more money, you can probably get a used 2500.

Hey guys,
first thingss first, thanks for your reply and advice.
I currently live in Germany, Berlin and it is for sure really hard finding a used MPC 2kxl here. Prices start from 500 € and cheaper ones are just basic versions without any expansion.
So you think the prices are way too steep? On ebay US there are so much cheaper ones, but the problem is they don't ship to europe, do they?

It's kinda veeeery frustating haha

but I will try getting some cheaper used MPC 2kxl , if not I just get a new 1k eventually. =)

You should be able to buy a fully functional MPC 2000XL from someone in the US and have it shipped to you for less than €500.

There are multiple threads here in the forums for installing inexpensive card readers and taking the 8-outs from a S3000XL and getting it to work inside a MPC 2000XL.

Hey guys, so I've decided to buy a 1k one.
And I been lookin on ebay and found a cool offer :

says : Akai MPC 1000 :

Price: 479€

has a 128mb ram chip
+ 4 GB CF card

+ 1,5 year Thomann warranty

So what y'all think ? Wanna know your opinion and mine is that it's kind of a nice offer =)

 Nah I just typed eBay DE.

From the fingerprints I see in the picture I guess the unit is used. With the extra $ for shipping to Germany and you wanting to avoid that it seems a fair price. Wouldn't matter much if you can find one for $550USD ($625USD on the linked one) on another country's eBay if its $75-$100 for shipping.

With any used MPC but especially the 1000 and 2500 you have to look out for dying or dead tact switches under the buttons. They used cheap ones that have a limited amount of presses in their life cycle. You also don't know how hard the previous owner went on the pads and the potential wear or worse failure of the sensor sheet underneath the pads.

But you said it had a warranty though, and if there's no way for you to set up a person to person sale where you could test this stuff before buying, this seems like a good option.

Is the warranty from the seller buying it new? I'm thinking if he's selling it and he didn't buy it too long ago, it may not have that much wear on it.

You'll probably be glad to go with a 1000 over an XL. XL's are great but the 1000 has the USB, CF reader standard, more memory and best of all you can put JJOS on it if you like (definitely at least have a look at the free one, the paid one is well worth it).

Ebay.co.uk usually have a steady flow of MPC2000XL's that will ship within the EU and so you won't have to pay import duty as you might if you buy from the US. And of course you wont have to deal with US voltage machines (??), and you'll get cheaper/ faster shipping. I really see no need to buy from the US at all. Have your Ebay searches set up for the whole EU not just your home country, it makes more sense.
