Hi there,
Basically i havent used my MPC for a few weeks, due to not having a RAM chip...
I now have one, but my MPC says 'Bad Format, OS start in 5s'

I am really worried and need to figure out why it is doing this!?

Can anyone please help me?

Chris

if you want help then please give us as much info as possible other wise its all guesswork.
cos we are not that psychic either. :)

What RAM did you use? That is the obvious cause, as you had no problem till you put it in right?
so you know that tells me that you did not get the correct RAM or that the RAM is not good or inserted properly

Sorry i am wet behind the ears at the minute...but always learning...

It was working fine the last time i used it a month ago. I havent used it until i installed the RAM chip yesterday, and i wasnt %100 it was inserted properly.
I took it out and still it says the same thing.

The RAM is a Samsung 128mb. The Ebay seller said its made for a few models of MPC and the 500 was included.

Is this enough information?

Thanks!

yep you got ripped off. You got wrong RAM. You need a 256mb RAM stick. not 128, as MPC uses only half of the chip set. See sticky thread in MPC1000 threads.
The seller is a liar and should get refund

It still doesnt work with the RAM taken out either....

It says MPC500 startup and nothing else...i tried pressing a few buttons to get a response and the best i get 'bad format' or something if i pressed mode and load i think
Im trying it now and i cant even make it say that now?!?!

Really confused, praying its not damaged!!!!!!!!!

What should i do now please?

I am afraid that your MPC is dead if it is still having a fatal error when the RAM isn't inserted.

Hopefully you still have warranty for your MPC.

Btw...did you try a factory reset ? ....:

1. Turn the MPC500 on while holding the [ERASE / UNDO] button.
2. Release the [ERASE / UNDO] button after the display shows [MPC500 (##MB installed)].

This cant be happening :(

So why has it died? Because the RAM i inserted was wrong?

I held erase/undo then turned it on...but it still just says MPC500 startup...

Surely there is something i can do about it?????
