I've got a 1000 and I'm experiencing some trouble with putting songs together. Here's the process I go through – I figure it's probably the only way to figure out what I'm doing wrong.

First I sample individual drum sounds, assign them to pads and construct my drum pattern. Oh, and I name this program something new once it's finished. Usually I'll start with one of the internal programs and then add my own sounds to it.

Next, I add a bassline or something. I then convert this to a song. Once this is done, I copy the sequence and add more loops.
This is where the problem starts. Once I arrange these two sequence in song mode they, the program only recognizes the most recent samples I've assigned. Therefore, the original sequence is lost and replaced with the most recent sample I add. So, how do I get this to work? I think I have to get it to recognize a program change but nothing on here or in the
manual has explained this very well. Sorry for the long-winded question but I'm not sure how else to explain this problem accurately.

Thanks

I am not to knowledgable with the 1k but if its like the 2kxl then it is very simple.......look at where the screen reads drum1 or drum2.......for your first sequence track 1 set it to drum 1 and where you added on if its a new program you need to set it to drum 2.......like say track 3 drum 2.......

I hope this helps you

What if it's the same program? All I'm doing is copying the sequence – with the same program and changing it up. Will what you've said above apply in this circumstance?

Not sure where to go here... Just copying a Sequence definitely works, I do that regularly without losing any information, the copy keeps all the Program information.
- does each Sequence play correctly on its own?

Are you sure you're not changing the Program for one or more Tracks somehow? The Pads play the Program assigned to the Active track on the main screen, so;
- try scrolling through all tracks in all sequences and verify that the Programs play like they should from the Pads.

If you use the same Program on the same track with the same MIDI notes, just in a copied sequence... what is actually changing? Try to isolate where the change is.
- the samples assigned to the Pads in Program mode?
- the MIDI notes in the Sequence?

PS: What do you mean by "changing it up"?

My first sequence has drums and a bassline. I copy this to a new sequence using the same program and add a horn or something. Unfortunately, once I'm in song mode, the arranged song only recognizes the samples I've recently added to the program. The first part with just the bassline is gone. I've tried creating a new program for the second copied sequence but have no Idea how to trigger a change within in a song. I took your advice and tried changing the Drum # on the main screen but that doesn't seem to be an option – the only choice I had was to change it from midi to drum. I've read the book and searched the forum and I'm still confused. It's probably something simple but it doesn't feel like it. Any thoughts. Again, sorry for the long-winded post. Once I figure this thing out they'll get shorter. Warning: I have a few more questions once this one is resolved.

Oh and thanks for your responses by the way.

Can you answer this question:
- does each sequence play correctly outside Song mode?
- If not: what changed on the bassline track?
- Are Events missing (check Step Edit)
- Or has the Program changed? Pad-sample assignments, etc?

This stuff doesn't just happen, so we're trying to help you track down what's happening in a methodical way. There's no "quick fix", take it one step at a time, and be patient!

They don't actually. But they did at first. I guess I'm trying to use the same program for a copied sequence, only I've added or subtracted sample from the program samples for the copied one. Is this possible? Sorry if i keep restating the same question but with my experience I'm not entirely sure that I'm describing my issue properly.

Tried again. Still nothing. Maybe it's a defected one.

"the copied one..?" Um... I thought you copied the Sequence? Not the Program?

The sequence copy still uses the same Program as the original. Not a copy: the same Program. If you delete samples from that Program, it will affect all Sequences that use that Program, including the original.

If you need different versions of the same Program in different Sequences, you need to copy the Program too, it doesn't happen automatically!

Okay. I kind of follow. But how do I copy a program – I've never seen this option. And once I figure this out, how do I ensure that this program change happens within an arranged song?

One last try to explain what I'm asking. Okay, I've copied a sequence and I want have it play the same expect that I've added a sample. The problem is, when you convert your arrangement from song mode to a sequence, the entire thing plays under one program – therfore, no changes take place. How do I get it to change to a new program within my arranged sequence? Three weeks of trying and I still can't crack it. There must be a really easy solution here that I'm missing.

you don't have to copy anything... when you make the preset, make sure the first one also has the sound you will be using in the second sequence, unless you are doing complex lines which spread all over the keyboard.
in that case use two different programs, program 1 (drums on track one) and prog 2 (moog) which you will record on another track. If your sequence builds up, the final build up will need all the programs anyway, so have the same multisetup in sequence on as sequence two.

best regards
