m audio mobile pre question

So I have an M Audio mobile pre usb, connect via usb to my PC. I also have a 1/8 to dual 1/4, & *2* xlr to 1/4. Connecting all of this to my MPC, the sound came out buzzy & very weak. I don't have the M Audio software that came with it.

Is this thing broken? Will the software somehow fix my problem?
