akai mpc 500

yo i bought the akai 500 midi and i have a normal laptop runnin on linux, when i try to connect the mpc with the laptop it doesnt recognize it. can u tall me some simple steps i should follow to start workin with it. thanks.

Connect how, what exactly are you doing?

umm i have a usb cable one end goes in the mpc the other in the laptop's usb. the problem is that the laptop doesnt find the mpc and the other thing is that on this stupid linux theres no programs i can use for the mpc...

the USB cable is only for reading the compactflash card in the mpc... chances are you don't have a flash card inserted.

In save/load menu press USB?

He said a "normal" laptop and running on "stupid Linux". Great combination if that's your thing.
