CURRENT SETUP.

MPC 2500SE WITH JJOS 3.10(FREE ONE)
i7 PC WITH LOADS OF VST'S , ARTURIA KOMPLETE WAVES FL STUDIO ETC
THATS IT! NOTHINGS WIRED UP JUST BOXED!

I GOT 500 TO SPLASH
OBVIOUSLY NEED INTERFACE MONITORS. ANY RECOMMENDATIONS HOW TO SPEND.

I WANNA HAVE IT SO THE MP DOES ALL THE SAMPLING CHOPPING SEQUENCING, BUT
ALL THE SOUNDS FROM THE PC/VST CAN BE RECORDED ONTO MP , OVER THE ISH IVE ALREADY DONE THERE.

WANNA AVOID SAT IN FRONT OF PC FOR HOURS MORE ON THE FLY WITH THE MP, AND JUST FIND SOUNDS AFTER TO ADD TO IT.MAYBE IMPROVED OS WILL GIVE ME BETTER OPTIONS OR INTEGRATE FL-ITS NOT BAD HAVING OPTIONS!!

I GUESS JUST KEEP IT CREATIVE AND FUN!

ANY IDEAS?!

hmmm kinda tite budget to include monitors and interface.. but you should look for something that is a midi and audio interface..(ensures the mpc will have midi and audio interfacing with computer to go back and forth.. You can sample from the computer vsts plus you can send mpc audio back to fl studio if you want.. You can also receive midi from flstudio or you can send midi from mpc back to flstudio..)
This is pretty good consdering you have mpc2500 with 8 assignable outs... Plus it has midi in and out.. And also spdif... (you can pass audio digital back and forth between mpc and computer) Will also make tracking much easier for you if you need to track out yr beat to flstudio..
http://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/US1800/ 300 buks is pretty good....
But only leaves you with $200 to spend on monitors...

Haven't included cable cost.. maybe 50 buks extra...

IM GONNA BE USING VINYL, SO YEAH I NEED TO INCLUDE TURNTABLE IN THERE, GOT A MIXER WAS THINKING VESTAX PDX 2000?

GUESS THAT 500 LOOKING REAL SKINNY RIGHT NOW!

THERES SO MANY VARIABLES TO THIS SETUP,

I GUESS I WANNA KEEP THINGS AS SIMPLE AS POSSIBLE AND DO MOST OF IT ON THE MP, NEVER REALLY GOT WITH THE PC DAW THING , STILL GET CONFUSED!

IM I EVEN GONNA USE THE 8 OUTS?!

DAMN WHEN IT WAS 2000XL AND DPS IT WAS NOT THIS CONFUSING!!

The variables quickly become options though if you don't mind working in different ways or a little re-arranging whether real world cables or the in the box software stuff. FL is a lot like an MPC in its pattern/song mode approach so mentally the lines blur in a good way.

You've already got a very versatile set of tools, all powerful and generally easy to use.

I have to agree with dazastah that the remaining budget is close to what a decent set of 8" monitors will set you back. There's 5" s out there but bass monitoring really suffers with ones that small, although for a small room 5" s have their place.

An interface I'd estimate is gonna be in the $199-$300 range if you want a fair amount of in/outs, decent drivers and good low latency.

But I fully recommend a setup that has hardware and software so I think you're off to a great start with what you have now. But yeah, no decent interface and monitors is like going in an NFL game with no shoes or helmet, so you'll need to address that.

But like I said the variables can quickly become options and you work with your room in modular fashion where any 2 or 3 things you grab can be made to hum together with just some audio and MIDI cables and minimal pre-visualization of what you wanna do, and it can be 7 different things a week which I personally find a lot of fun.

If you can live with just 2-4 inputs there's decent interfaces for $150-$199, Presonus and some others. But one like that and a pair of 5" monitors is the only way you flying in with both at $500.

God save/bless the Sterling Pound then.

You got enough for both then, although VAT added out the door prices might be a tad higher than the US.

KRK 8's and a Focusrite with 8 ins is an example of something that might just fit that budget, and then you've got everything you'll need for the next few years easily. I'm over here smiling on your behalf man. :smoker:

LOL. I SHALL BURN A FIVE POUND NOTE AS A TRIBUTE!

OK SO HOW DO I SETUP THIS MOTHER.
BY THE 8'S U MEAN ROKITS?! I BEEN HEARING FOUL ISH ABOUT THOSE

SO WHAT THE MP'S A SLAVE TO THE PC WITH FL?!

I HEARD A JJOS CAN DIRECT RECORD IN, DAMN OPTION OVERLOAD!

NEED TO KEEP IT SIMPLE QUICK AND ON THE FLY - JEFF GOLDBLUM STYLE!!

SO DO BASICS ON MP DUMP TO FL, THEN ADD SOUNDS THERE?!
I KNOW ZILCH ABOUT ANY OF THAT, IM DINOSAUR OLD SCHOOL.

The KRK's are a bit "hyped" and not as flat as other monitors. Look at Yamahas in same price range for something a bit more accurate. And if you're buying from a shop in person hopefully their room isn't so bad acoustically that you can't bring some of your beats and some mastered commercial stuff you like and see how you feel about about any monitors you might be looking at.

MPC can be the MIDI master or be slaved to FL or whatever. Depends on where you samples are and those things as to what you might choose. I'm a big fan of MPC as the master because until I bought a $1300USD interface the MPC's MIDI timing was better than my computer/interfaces and I like using the MPC's transport controls as the main ones to control he whole show.

Yeah JJ has the audio tack/direct record stuff. Don't even get too worried. At first you can use 10-25% of the capabilities you have on all this stuff and still make tons of tracks. After a while you start adding more to your flow or just experiment for the fun of it and see what parts fit what you do regularly.

But once the audio cables and MIDI cables are set up and the hardware and computer can go in tandem (or not that's the beauty or either/or, both setups), just the basic functions down and you're already rolling.

But yeah that last sentence you wrote, totally can be that simple and just build on that gradually. This is an international forum and clearly like myself there's some insomniacs here, so help is probably a pot away, and mostly you'll get feedback right away or same day.

Truth be told, I many times am one of the few people here that defends the equal everything for everyone mentality.

I've argued against the gay people are immoral/affront to god stuff, the notion it's some perverted choice that's made, that the fact gay people are actually acknowledged as existing and might be in public or on TV is not going to destroy society and is not a liberal conspiracy to destroy the world...

I took Sean's usage as how gay people I know might say to each other you're being gay dude. I made the Triumph meme to show I'm not hating, just was in fun. But yeah some people are SHOOK concerning anything about gay people.

I'm pretty wordy on her at times and at least 5 times have been asked if I'm from the UK, just for how I write sentences. I grew up a rudeboy skin as much as a b-boy in the 80's so I know a lot about English stuff and old and modern UK slang.

So I'll understand anything you type no mater how quintessentially British it is. Hell I'd like the US to fix some stuff and spell gray as grey, colour would be good too, and I'll happily switch some "z"'s to "s"'s.

Not sure throughout history why we felt the need to change the language so much. aside from laziness that is.

Yeah man, Tannoys are good, Fostex makes quality monitors as well.

It's international, this forum, so someone is usually awake although there are lulls, never more than a few hours and then it's evening or daytime somewhere on the globe.

I know what you mean, they know me at the store here, and they're always like, "Why are you asking us? Half the time I want to hand the phone here to you..."

But places like this, Sound On Sound mag and things, you can work around staff like that. Some shops have more knowledgeable people. My friend used to work at the local one and he had industry credits stretching back to '94. Like night and day to have him help a customer compared to the other guys.

But yeah generally you can post British slang and a lot of people here will understand it. Some of the most fun and informed posters here are from the UK.

 @ the chimney stuff.
